Why do some people always link AIDS/HIV to gay men ?

In fact there are heterosexual men who are HIV positie as well. Isn't that unfair to gay men ?

For those people who always link AIDS to gay men, what are their " arguments " ?

The Gay community was the first to be struck by this pandemic, in the United States.

For awhile it was known as "The Gay Cancer"

I mean, that sort of publicity doesn't go away easily. The Conservatives at the time were looking for a way to strike at the gay community, and boy did they find one and run with it.

And no, it isn't fair. But AIDS isn't fair. 95% of all AIDS patients are now in 3rd world countries.

Just general Phobias, people link negative things to those which they dislike to give a reason to dislike them.

Because it's only the LGBT community who supports all persons who are AIDS/HIV positive and offers the safe sex and the AIDS awareness message to the whole community. The LGBT community is the only community which has many organizations who help and aid to people who are AIDS/HIV positive during hardship and care showing dignity to all persons regardless of there sexual orientation the same care and respect. By this the LGBT are linked to narrow minded opinion of AIDS/ HIV is fully linked within the LGBT community.

I know what you mean.I Personally know someone who thinks in this way but he hasn't actually got an answer as to why he thinks it.
personally i think hes just pure homophobic.
live and let live is what i say.

It's not only gay men. It's gay in general. When I told my brother I was gay he told me to be careful he didn't want me getting AIDS. I was like WTF? I'm not promiscuous at all and have only been with 1 person sexually, which is my partner of 8 yrs. It's just complete ignorance on their part.

Firstly there was zero to little evidence even collected in the 80's regarding heteros and HIV. So they really have no clue how many people on either side (gay - str8) were actually infected. It was shoved onto the gay communities responsibility yes. You are correct on that. The backlash is far more terrifying. The highest risk group is now hetero females, usually teenage. Much higher than gay men now. The problem is that people pointed the finger for so long that they didn't check their own. And the level of denial in this matter is staggering. People against safe sex education in schools is ridiculous. Teenage pregnancy is pone thing, having a deadly disease is quite another.

But yet the hetero communities for a large part still blame the GLBTQ people for HIV/AIDS. Assuming that they can't get the disease for some stupid reason. Unfortunately they are learning that lesson the hard way now.

It's a fair question.

Gay males are 1000 (that's one THOUSAND) times more likely to contract HIV/AIDS, by far more than any other group in America to contract the disease.

But, there are other cooties to be afraid of...and very afraid. Here's a list.

1) Hepatitis A, B & C
2) Herpes Simplex 1, 2 & 8 (yes, there is an 8)
3) cytomeglalovirus
4) gay bowel syndrome
5) amoebiasis
6) anal warts
7) anal cancer
8) shigellosis
9) chlamydia
10) gonorrhea
11) syphllis
12) giardia lamblia
13) cryptosporidium
14)isospora belli
15) microsporidia

The last four are found almost exclusively in gay men. They are basically intestinal illnesses causing severe and chronic diarrhea. They get this through anal sex and through fecal matter. Many gay men engage in coprophilia, which is the excitement and sexualization of fecal matter.

Perhaps you're under the illusion that condoms protect against these diseases? Remember, condoms are to prevent pregnancy, not primarily used to reduce the chances of STD's. It only takes a micro (means you can't see it) tear in condom. Latex condoms should be transported and stored in air conditioning. Latex tears very easily.

Mchughes, where do you get your info. Coprophilia is rarely practiced by anyone, gay or straight. Also, the last four diseases you mentioned are not generally exclusive to gay men. Particularly cryptosporidium, which can be contracted through contaminated water with a recent outbreak in Idaho.
