Why are those who have AIDS/HIV the first highly infectious group to be free of quarantine?

Maybe it鈥檚 because we are Americans and have forgotten but TB and various other diseases that are highly infectious the government can come in and quarantine that person indefinitely.

Why is AIDS the only exception to the rule? I know a lot of Gay Rights advocates were mad when they decided they can try those who are infected with AIDS/HIV (if they unknowingly have unprotected sex with that person) with attempted murder but why is AIDs different?

AIDS can be managed like many other infectious diseases but what is it so special? Is it because the pressure the gay community puts on the issue? It is no different from TB in that it can spread and it鈥檚 highly infectious so why aren鈥檛 those who are carriers quarantined?

Why is AIDS different?

HIV is NOT contagious. It is infectious. Big difference in the disease transmission world.

Quarantine would be unethical and completely unproductive in preventing the spread of HIV.

And more than just Gay Rights advocates are upset about the criminalization of HIV transmission. Many public health authorities, HIV experts, and other educated persons etc. were equally upset about this. For many reasons.
It is too complex of an issue to fully discuss here, but the criminalization of HIV transmission does nothing to prevent the spread of HIV, hinders HIV education/prevention to/in marginalized populations, cases seem to be disproportionately prosecuted against people of colour. I know it seems very logical to prosecute and hold criminally responsible someone who transmits HIV. There is a reason we stopped criminally charging people for transmitting other STIs that ring true for HIV --- it makes controlling the disease in the population extremely difficult.

The answer is simple: AIDS is not transmitted casually, while TB can be transmitted through coughs and sneezes. Unless you have unprotected sex with an HIV-positive person, you can not get AIDS.

What a stupid question, really.

It's different because unlike TB, you can't spread HIV by coughing. It's contagious but not HIGHLY contagious.

It's only spread through bodily fluids. It's sexually transmitted and transmitted by sharing needles.

I don't think it's necessary to lock people up because they might have unprotected sex with someone... or they MIGHT bleed on someone with an open wound.

The best way to reduce the spread of HIV is to get tested if you are at risk and take certain precautions if you are infected or partake in alot of risky behavior.

If we locked away every person with HIV, no one would ever get tested out of fear of what would happen to them and it would lure the public into a false sense of safety. I bet alot of people would think that they were safe and didn't have to use a condom just because all those sick people were hypothetically locked away somewhere.

Aids is not infectious. I am HIV positive and the idea of quarantining us is a insult. Tb is truly an infectious disease you can catch it by couching on someone were if i cough on you, rub against you and use your toilet you want catch HIV.
When you speak about quarantining us you should remember this HIV/AIDS people work, go to school and have families. Thus we have rights like every other hard working American.
