Can AIDS/HIV be eliminated if...?

Every single person on Earth who has the disease, is isolated and quarantined from the non-infected healthy population?

Then of course, the people who have AIDS/HIV will eventually just...you know..die off. Along with the disease that has plagued humanity for far too long.

In theory, this would work - but only in theory. There are huge, terrible social implications behind what you are suggesting. People with HIV frequently continue to have intercourse with other people - and, surprise surprise... they can have children who are HIV negative, even if both the mother and father were HIV positive. So, do we relegate those children to live in this "penal colony" of lepers or do we get them out? How do we move the estimated 30 or 40 million people in the world to an isolated area and ensure that their needs are cared for during the next 10 years - the average lifespan of an individual after they learn they are infected? It simply doesn't make sense.

The best way to eliminate HIV/AIDS is to take personal responsibility for your own actions and who you choose to have sexual relations with. If you are promiscuous, don't use protection, and do foolish things... you are much more likely to get it. If not - and you sleep with the same girl your entire life... and she never sleeps with or has slept with anyone else... then you have nothing to worry about. It's important to focus on INDIVIDUALS with HIV... not the group of people with it as a whole, as if they are a different species or - as I said before - lepers, destined to be shunned from society for their disease.

Why stop with HIV? If you did that with every disease there'd be no room for healthy people.

Kevin is right. Where do you put 10's of millions of people if you have to isolate them?

Consider also the social implications - it's estimated that 70% of the South African military is HIV+. (Even higher in Zimbabwe.) Are you going to replace them? With whom? I guess is a few years they won't need to be replaced - just buried or burned.

Say we use the continent of Africa since it's the primary local of most of the world's HIV infections. What do you do for those years of no resourses coming out of Africa? The USA gets its bauxite from Africa. (Amount of bauxite naturally occuring in the USA - 0 pounds.) Without it we have no aluminum. What do you use for making cars, cans, foil, and so many other everyday products?
