Question is about HIV/AIDS?

Suppose a woman was pregnant and she has HIV/AIDS how would it affect her child?

i dont think any of your previous posters have any real knowledge on this subject. the fact is, with modern medicines that are available today the child would most likely NOT contract the virus. pregnant women are treated with antiretrovirals during the pregnancy and during labor for a certain number of hours prior to delivery. very few infants who are given this treatment will be affected. to further decrease the risk of transmission the mother may elect to have a cesarean delivery prior to labor starting. people who have no idea what they are talking about should not answer

The child will also have AIDS.

The child could be born with HIV/AIDS.

nine times out of ten she would probaly have it why are you pregnant?????????????

You'll hear most often that the mother will pass it down to her child. But i've seen in some cases that it doesn't. Try researching it more on google. You neevr know i could be wrong about the first part.

there is a way that the child could be born and not get infected i am not sure where you would find the info about this, i just remember reading about it one time.

No with modern medicine it is very possible not to pass it along to your unborn child especially with a c-section.

If you do not take the proper medication your child will most likely have the virus. The good news is if you take medication you can hopefully prevent spreading the virus to the baby. You need to take the medication if you have HIV and are pregnant good luck

If the mother takes retrovirual medication during the pregnancy and if the baby takes it durng his first year of life the cahnces taht he doesn麓t devevlop HIV are good, but if the mother does nothimg about it then propably the baby will develop HIV. Also she cannot breastfeed him.

the risk is very high.but its not certain that she will transmit the virus.
also the physician will give her zidovudine and also will give it to the child till age 6 month
good luck

An unborn baby is at risk of contracting HIV if its mother is HIV positive before she gets pregnant, or is exposed to HIV during pregnancy.

If HIV infection is diagnosed, steps can be taken to help reduce the likelihood of passing the infection to the baby. These include the use of antiretroviral drugs for the mother and her newborn baby, giving birth by Caesarean section, and avoiding breastfeeding.

If you are HIV positive but are well during your pregnancy, your baby is not at extra risk of being underweight or premature. If you are ill during pregnancy, your baby is more likely to need special care when it is born.

The baby may or may not have HIV. Usually test results are in by the time the child is 18 months old. A child born with HIV may experience...........

Fever, fatigue
Diarrea
Skin Rashes
Loss of Appetite
Swollen Lymph Glands
Significant weight loss
Lack of resistance to infection
Furry white spots in the mouth
Red or purplish spots on the body
