Black Plauge vs HIV/AIDS?

What are some of the things that the black plague in the 17th century and HIV/AIDS today differ from or are the same in.

Haha. Are you kidding? The Black Plague and HIV/AIDs are completely different. They just both happen to be diseases and kill many people. The Black Plague was an airbourne disease. HIV and AIDs are not. There's a vaccination for the Black Plague. There is not one for AIDs. The Black Plague gives people boils and stuff like that. HIV/AIDs destroy your immune system so that you can easily become sick. Do I need to continue?

Oh, and just for your information, the Black Plague still exists. There just aren't massive outbreaks like there were in the Medieval Ages because, as I said before, we have vaccinations.

You'll find that there is the possibility of a common genetic trait that may make some people immune to both diseases..... http://steelturman.typepad.com...
Specifically, Delta32 may block HIV from infecting you, as it did the Black Plague. Report It

There is/was a lot of taboo in the early stages of knowledge for both....and as always, people are ignorant and pass judgement.

The bubonic plague is very contagious--spread by droplet and contact; HIV is communicable only in limited ways.

The bubonic plague is caused by a bacterium--and can now easily be cured with antibiotics. Cases spring up regularly, but the illness is quickly contained.

HIV is caused by a virus, and there is no cure.

Bubonic plague has been present for a large chunk of human history; HIV is a relatively new retrovirus.

During the Black Death, bubonic plague predictably killed rapidly; HIV is less predictable. It may not become full-blown AIDS for decades, or at all. The average survival for someone diagnosed as HIV+ is currently 24 years.

Bubonic plague carried far less stigma because it did not appear to discriminate, the way HIV did at its first appearance. It was, from its very onset, an equal-opportunity killer.

But both have been surrounded by great superstition and misunderstanding.
