Why is HIV / AIDS an incurable disease and how can one prolong the effect inthe body? |
hiv /aids Actually there are many natural anti viral/bacterial remedies out there that the big pharmaceutical companies wont "Saying that AIDS is "incurable" is a simple enough statement, but one which is even open to debate: With the medications we have today, and the way the virus behaves, i.e. "hides out" in certain tissues of the body, it would take (said a recent estimate at this year's Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections) 61 years of continuous therapy to eradicate the virus. This is of course a long enough time so that we simply look at HIV as being incurable. Some of this very long period of time is due to the behavior of the virus; being a retrovirus, it invades the host cells in ways which science had not seen before. It is hard to defeat because it changes it DNA make-up so one day so-so drug kills it the next it don't and to prolong is to eat healthy be healthy HIV is basically an immune weakening disease so even the common cold could kill you. It lets you open to all kinds of diseases. While there is still no "cure" for HIV/AIDS, there has been a lot of progress on treating the disease. The hottest drug on the market is provided by Abbott laboratories and is called "Kaletra". This is used in combination with other retrovirus drugs to provide long term supression of HIV. What is more is that they have recently come out with a new version of the drug that requires once daily dosing, and no refridgeration. With the drug combination it has proven to keep the HIV viral load at undetectable levels for over 5 years without showing resitance. Hope this helps. There are some potential vaccines in the works, but with the regulatory picture we have in the US they will not be even potentialy available for probably 10 years.. This answer represents my opinion please investigate my reponse further to form your own opinion, and as always consult a doctor about the correct treatment regiment is correct for you. |
