Christians, you say that HIV/AIDS is a result of promiscuity...?

People who do not commit adultery or fornication are less likely to get HIV/AIDS.

Well....in biblical times, in the ancient middle east, it would have been UNTHINKABLE for unmarried persons to kiss. Even today, some orthodox jews follow a rule forbidding men & women to touch. (remember, jews are the people of the bible). It is only in very recent, modern times that it has even become acceptable for christians to date (and probably kiss) and be open about it.

So couldn't it also be said that by not kissing, people are protected from getting MONO in the same way that fornication protects against HIV/AIDS?

Mono isn't spread by kissing! It's an airborne virus! Get your facts straight and then we'll talk.

I think the spread of AIDS is the result of promiscuity. No one can deny that, it's just logical. I do not know what caused AIDS in the first place, though.

Just one thing. "Jews" are not the people of the Bible. The ISRAELITES are!! And, the word "Jew" is derived from Judah, only one of the 12 tribes of Israel.

It can be. But I read of a Christian lady who caught HIV through a blood transfusion and when she went to her church family for support they alienated her. The only place she could get support and education was in the gay community!

Promiscuity spreads more then HIV/AIDS, but it does not cause diseases.

Aids is the result of acquiring the HIV virus. That can occur in many ways which also includes blood transfusions received by someone who is totally innocent. If it was sent as a punishment from God for promiscuity, He neglected to take that fact into account.

Your argument is flawed because in ancient times it was normal practice for men to have several wives and/or concubines. Conservatives use this argument to scare teens. True, abstaining from sexual activity is a good way to avoid sexually transmitted diseases, but promiscuity is one factor among many.

well...AIDS has always been classified as a sexually transmitted disease. and I got Mono when I was 10...and I definitly wasn't kissing anyone..boys during that age still had cooties...sooooo......what can we conclude?.... AIDS is through sex..and Mono is airborne..you may want to read up and educate yourself the next time before trying to make a point....let me ask you...would you rather have sex with someone who has AIDS? or sit next to someone with mono?

Just to clarify: HIV/AIDS is a result of hunting and consuming bush meat. Bust meat is basically monkey. In poor African countries tribes hunt, kill and eat primates. Primates have a viral infection that functions the exact same way that AIDS functions in Human Beings. Unfortunately that virus jumped the species gap, was able to thrive and evolve in a human being and resulted in the outbreak of the current AIDS virus.

Not having sexual intercourse, not doing drugs which use needles, and never allowing an open cut to come into contact with another persons blood are all 100% ways not to get AIDS. So if you were really scarred of getting MONO I suppose you could just never kiss anyone, never share a drink with anyone, never eat someone else's foods, never put your mouth on a public surface, or your hands and then directly put them in your mouth.... lol there are so many ways to get MONO I'm not 100% sure you could 100% prevent yourself form getting it. But at the same time it isn't exactly the easiest thing to get mono either. Just be clean and safe and you shouldn't get the virus.

Edit: to the answer above mine as well as Jeromes. If two people with AIDS conceive a baby, the baby will not have AIDS. However when it is born, the contact with the mothers blood will cause the baby to contract the virus with 90-100% probability.

To Mumof4's response, a virus like HIV is technically a living organism. We didn't create it.

First of all, you can't lump all Christians with each other. Just because one says something doesn't mean it is correct or that all of us share the same opinion.

Anyways, HIV/AIDS has proven to be spread by promiscuity and infedelity. MONO you can get by other means besides kissing (ie drinking after each other, sharing food etc etc etc)

Mononucleosis is NOT airborne. It is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, which is in the same family of retrovirises as herpes. It is spread by contact with an infected person, which includes but is NOT LIMITED TO kissing. You can get it if someone has wiped his nose with his hand (which might explain why a ten year old can get it), since nasal secretions contain the virus. It is not very contagious, and it has never been found on environmental surfaces.
As for AIDS being your god's "punishment" for promiscuity, please explain why lesbians rarely get it. They're as promiscuous as anyone.

You are correct, HIV/AIDS is spread through sexual contact and promiscuous sexual contact will raise the likelihood of contracting the disease. The same holds true for all the so called STD's and many diseases that are not listed as STD's but are contracted through physical contact.

In the Bible we are told that God created Adam from the earth, then took a rib from his side and made Eve from it, in other words, He made two from one, so that each is incomplete without the other, because God intended us to be *relational* creatures.

But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

We are to be joined, one to the other, forever. Sex, rightly understood, is the *glue* that makes the two one. When sex is treated as recreational sport the glue gets weak, we violate the created order, and disease follows. Try taking a piece of tap, stick it to your arm, then pull it off. The first time you do it the glue is fresh, the tape sticks, and it hurts to pull it off. The second time the glue is less fresh, it hurts less when you pull it off. Repeat the process half a dozen times and the glue no longer sticks. Sex is like tape.

HIV/AIDs is a form God's wrath, fornication, bestiality, homosexuality remember Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed for some of this same reasons. It biblical time they had several wife's and concubines and some visited prostitutes. The History Channel just ran a special on some of it Sex in the Bible.
