Is HIV/AIDS truly a "gay man's" disease? |
I visited CNN yesterday afternoon and saw a video feed dubbing this a controversial statement. Despite all the histrionics and shock, isn't that statement a sad fact? Is it not true that the majority of HIV/AIDS cases are homosexual men??? I think what the bunch of you seem to forget, that although black women are increasingly infected with HIV, they are most likely infected by a "down-low" partner. That's why the infection rate is high amongst black women. Alot of you are in such denial about the source of this disease it's shameful... This disease was first recognized as a problem in the gay community, but nobody definitely knows where it all started, with who, or how. I think that it is extremely unfair and an obscene generalization to say that this is a "gay man's" disease. You need to check the stats with the WHO to see what populations are carrying HIV. No, it is not just a gay man's disease. In its earlier stages it may have been. Now, it from unprotected sex with any partner, drug use and dirty needles and so on. Unfortunately, the "gay mans" label carries on even though it is no longer relevant. AIDS is a disease that can infect anyone! It is thought of it as a homosexual`s disease, because since they don`t get pregnant they tend to make sex without condoms, and so spread the disease. Remember, that even a tiny wound on your lip can be the reason for infection, be smart and measure your partners well. no!! aids affects both male and females. India has the highest rate of aids!! Actually, I heard that African-Americans have the highest cases and it's not because they're gay, it's because of drug use. its because of anal sex - getting in in the butt is more likely for diseases No thats not true. HIV/AIDS can be carried by woman and children too. People who have a drug problem and open sex are affected the most. although AIDS has really affected the gay community. If it were "gay man's disease", they would be the only ones that were affected and got the disease... that is a crazy notion. No. For the statistics go to the Centers for Disease Control website www.cdc.gov In USA: A simple answer is No, AIDS is not a gay's mans disease. Nor are the majority of new cases in Gay men. A sad truth is that many if not most new cases are appearing in black heterosexual women. Another good reason that you must not believe everything you hear on TV. NO it is not true most cases are not gay men. The newest group on the rise is african american WOMEN. There have been more cases of women recently then men . 1. No Not really. You know, nearly 100% of prostitutes in Africa have AIDS. Some of them are even being studied because they don't seem to be affected in the same way as most of the people with the disease. And there's a myth going around that you can cure AIDS by having sex with a virgin. So now many young girls in Africa are being raped and infected because of this. Unless people have been living under rocks, they should know better. Nope. Minority women make up the fastest growing group of new infections in America. The greatest transmission risk always has been anal sex, but THAT isn't exclusively a "gay man's" activity any more than the disease is exclusive to that population. Aids affects everybody not just gay people.. its spreading more now because of unprotected sex and drug needles... nah its just that they are vulnerable to it coz *** tissues are too soft and tend to get infected easily. Unfortunatele the answer is a resounding NO. This thinking is why HIV/AIDS is so widespread. You get the virus from sharing needles, unprotected sex with someone with the virus-yes heterosexual sex, blood transfusions, but the supply is carefully checked now. Babies are born with it form infected mothers. You cannot get it from kissing, drinking from a glass, the toilet etc. Bodily fluids must be exchanged, like blood or semen, Know your partner. If you are sexually active, get tested ofted, there is a quick test now, and city hospitlas will do it immediately. get a clue No it is not. The majority of cases are heterosexuals. Don't forget the already millions of deaths in Africa. My husband is not homosexual and he is infected with HIV. I don't ever even recall a time that he was experimenting. Also one fact is that anal sex is one of the easiest ways to contract HIV because of the cluster of blood cells that are surrounding the anus. HIV is everyone's problem no matte who you are. |
