An Intresting Question Regarding HIV AIDs (16+)?

People say that these days aids is growing more rapidly in the world but i have a question. in acient times like 1000's of years people had no protection like condoms, sponges, pregnancy pills, e.t.c. So what did they used to use and if they used nothing then wasn't hiv aids more common those days.

HIV is a virus that didn't exist in all parts of the world. It's origin is still a mystery. But, basically, HIV didn't exist (or wasn't known) until about 20-25 years ago.

You also have to understand that viruses can mutate- there is one now called MRSA- it's a mutated form of Staph that is resistent to antibiotics- it didn't always exist either. The overuse of antibiotics, people not taking their full course of antibiotics, and using anitibiotics to try and fight viruses (antibiotics only work on bacteria- they are useless against a virus)- has contributed to mutating viruses.

Another difference between 1000 years ago and today is the number of sex partners someone has. Back when my parents and grandparents got married- they stayed that way. One partner- period- they didn't have multiple partners before they got married like many people to day. Since HIV is spread through sex, if you keep close to home, your chances of getting it are reduced. If the only person you have sex with is also a virgin- (and avoiding blood transfusions and IV drug use)- you aren't going to get HIV- period. It's not possible.

Hope this helps.

back then they didnt know what hiv or aid was they could probably die and get all the symptoms of it and not really know why. so they probably did get it they just didnt know =) well thats what i think =)

Well those people who had AIDS died early from colds, infections etc. since no medical help was available, and so did not have time to spread it.

I think HIV was discovered in the 80's if I am not mistaken. Besides condoms don't protect against HIV! 10,000 HIV viruses can fit on one sperm and if sperm can get through condoms well HIV definetly can too!

Yes and no. No one knows exactly where HIV came from. It may have been an STD that changed or evolved into a stronger one. Back in the day, people were not quite as promiscuous. In the European days when they were, Syphilis became a widespread problem. However, they probably didn't know whether it was HIV/AIDs or not as many of todays STDs were existent but not known/diagnosed/tested for yet. The European eruption of syphilis is a prime example of what happens when people w/out protection become promiscuous.

Well they had condoms actually, but the first case of HIV was mid 1980's so no it wasn't a concern. They have found a few random mysterious deaths in history they assumed were HIV related. A few cadavers tested HIV+ they excavated. So in theory HIV was at the most 100 years ago.

HIV/AIDS has only been known about for 25 years, and maybe been around for 50-75 years. Back in the 50's a lot of STD's were "lumped" into a couple of categories, as medicine has become more technical the have found a lot more STDS and have become pro active for taking care of them.

There were STD's 100's of years ago, it is thought that Henry the 8th died of madness from syphilis. They just didn't have the medications we do now. When you look at it how recent was penicillin developed?
