Serious Question About HIV/AIDS. Serious Answeres Only Please?

Hey guys.

Look, do you guys ever question if maybe, just maybe, the HIV/AIDS "epidemic" in America is being exagggerated just a little?

I know it is a very serious and prevalent disease. I think everyone (gay and/or straight) should take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and be more careful about who they sleep with...

but how come there isn't more newborns/pregnant women with the disease? And I'm not talking about some obscure people we dont even know who live halfway across the world/country on tv or magazines , I mean people you and I know and interact with on a day-to-day basis.

Where are all the people with HIV/AIDS? If what the media will have us to believe about the disease's spread is true, then how can we procreate? That would mean being unprotected during sex. They make it seem as if every other person has HIV/AIDS.

I'm not disputing the seriousness of the disease and it's spread, I'm just saying that in this media hyped land, it doesnt add up

If 6% out of several million in the USA alone is "overblowing" the AIDS epidemic... then I guess it is.

... but personally, that's too many people with a fatal disease for me to take any chances with (or advise any friends or relatives to take chances with!).

I think that AIDS is a much covered-up disease, so you don't really know who around you has it. I used to work in a preschool and we were told that 2 kids had HIV... but not which 2 kids, because we were supposed to treat them all the same and use gloves/standard safety all the time. People who "come out of the closet" as having AIDS are subject to ALOT of discrimination... I do not blame them for keeping quiet!!

I would guess that the "real incidence" of HIV and AIDS in the USA is above the "official" numbers. I know alot of people who, even if they suspected that they had it, would rather ignore it for as long as possible... which is what contributes to the spread...

Maybe the media is overblowing your chances of catching the disease (it IS a very fragile virus that is MUCH less contagious than say... herpes).... but, still, given what it does to your body and that there is no cure... do you really want to take ANY chances??

Moron, if you had this disease, would you tell? Most folks who have it are afraid to tell, so the stats are skewed.

a woman should b pregnant whereas she had intercourse with the male person, therefore a woman should have one patterner so dat this desease will not be spread.even if both of them do have this desease they must b faithful to one another not sleeping with others around, all these just to prevent spreadness of this disease.

AIDS is peculiar in that it doesn't necessarily have visible signs, which addresses the first part. Secondly, AIDS infection rates in this country remain relatively low, roughly .6% says the CIA Factbook, with total infection still below a million (950k) in the United States alone. Now, estimates like that tend to be on the low side, as people who do not know they are infected as they have multiple anonymous partners, i.e. those in the sex business and parts of homosexual communities, and IV drug users.

If you consider .6% rate of infection and say that you live in a mid-sized state of 20 million. By my rough calculations, that would leave your state with less than 16k infections. 16000/20,000,000 isn't a very big number. Chances are, you wouldn't run into them every day. Even if you did, they may not know or they may not tell you.

If you look at infection rates for other countries, in particular focus is Africa, the picture changes. I have seen estimates for some impoverished countries show infection rates of over 50% of the general population. This was true in South Africa at one point. If you lived there, you would almost certainly know a few people infected.

Hope that helps

well i stay by someone who has aids and the only reason i feel like i know of this is because she cant hide her condition but the good thing about it is that she speaks about it and try to courage people to have safe sex but you do have some that doesnt speak of it but I pray they play it safe.I look at things in a different way others may do.No one plans on getting anything especially if it is your partner, you can be the innocent and get a disease, you dont have to sleep with mutilpe people but you can still get it .Having aids is like carrying a secret along with other diseases

Follow the money trail for the truth about HIV in the United States.

It's not hyped up-just look the amount of money the pharmaceutical companies are making on HIV drugs and how they're constantly doing this really expensive research to come up with more drugs.

If it was hype, they wouldn't be spending so much money to make so much more money.

There are a good portion of people in the United States-on the higher income side-who can come up with the $1300.00 a month for HIV medications and can remain unreported.

As for pregnant women delivering babies with HIV-the woman taking a medication regime prior to delivery really lowers the chances of the baby acquiring HIV-it's proven.

The truth is-It's not hyped up enough. There is much more unknown and unreported HIV out there than we actually have numbers for.

Every person who test post for HIV, will develope AIDS.

Believe me HIV/AIDS is a problem in the USA.
I worked in a county health department...lots of HIV/AIDS patients, including pregnant women, and children who were born with HIV/AIDS.
HIV/AIDS is completely preventable!!!

Hun you could look at it this way in the 80's they did not want to recognize there was even a HIV virus and the US Government was shunting away from it which meant no money and no backing to help control it for our president show no regret to help control it at that time He had more important things to worry about like what shirt is he going to wear Besides it was a gay disease and it will help control them That came out of his Memoir's now you know what the media had a frenzy on that after it did get out
Well enough babbling hun
