African Americans & HIV/AIDS?

African Americans comprise only 13 percent of the U.S. population, but account for over 50 percent of estimated new HIV/AIDS cases and 51 percent of the people who die with AIDS.

What do these percentages mean in real numbers. For example..what is 13% of the U.S. population. How large is the U.S. population?

FYI:
Seventy-two African Americans are infected with HIV every day.
African Americans accounted for 55 percent of deaths due to HIV in 2002
Nearly 70 percent of women with AIDS are Black. In 2004, the rate of diagnoses for Black women was 23 times the rate for White women.
