AIDS and pregnancy question...?

Is it possible for a man with HIV or AIDS to impregnate a woman and not give her the disease? Has it happened? Did the baby get the disease and not she? Were both mother and baby disease-free? Any cases where the woman caught the disease and the baby didn't?

Yes,Yes it has,Yes,No,Yes

All the answers added to the topic. However, Joash N's answers hit each and every one of the questions I asked, even if he was, well, succinct. Thanks, all! Report It

it is possable - you are not 100% guaranteed to get HIV from a man with it (although it is high risk) although baby and mothers blood doesnt mix it passes so close that the HIV virus passes to baby in the same way that food and oxygen does so most babys will contract it from the mother thou in rare cases they might not but the risk is extreamly high!

It is possible for a woman to have AIDS and to not pass it to her baby as long as she is given AZT intraveneously during labor to lower her viral count and then a c-section is done to reduce maternal-fetal fluid mixing.

Yes. The blood of the baby and the mother does not mix during pregnancy (except for in very rare cases). Discuss with you doctor a planned c-section so the baby will have a better chance of not being infected during birth.

If he is infected and has sex with her than she will get the virus too and most definitely give to the baby. I would talk to the doctor before possibly infecting two more people.
