Do lesbians have a higher chance of contracting HIV or AIDS?

Here is my logic: straight couples have condoms they are able to use during intercourse, which helps in the prevention of STDs. It is the same with gay men. I was thinking, though, and lesbians do not have that protection during sex. Of course, there are different ways to have sex, but I am wondering if there are statistics, or opinions even.

Hello Noell

Actually lesbians have the lowest infection rate of any studied group.

See the CDC site below.

They have less chance of catching almost all STDs because the body parts used generally don't spread these as much- fingers in vagina won't spread STDs, penis in vagina or anus will. Also, there are things that lesbians use to have safer sex- a glove for using fingers or hands, and a dental dam or saran wrap to put in between one's mouth and the other's vagina during oral sex.

However, remember that anyone's risk of catching any STD is a matter of behavior, not sexual orientation.

HIV can be transmitted through blood, semen, vaginal fluids, breast milk and bile. Anal intercourse and vaginal intercourse are especially "successful" ways of transmitting the disease because mucous membranes are so sensitive, micro tears in the vagina or rectum are common. The virus can then get directly into the bloodstream.

Lesbians can and do get HIV/AIDS as well as other STDs, they're just lower risk.

Some educated lesbians use dental tape to help in protection if they are going to stimulate their recturm. It is not for me.

For male homosexuals, there are more blood vessels in the rectum and the lower colon than any other place on the human body. Homosexuals are really risking their lives-mail and female.

Well, actually lesbians do have protection during sex- proper, safe lesbian sex includes usage of condoms (on sex toys, strap-ons, etc.), latex gloves, and dental dams.

Lesbian couplings have the lowest risk of disease transmission (due to the majority of type of sex that they have), but it still exists.

If you鈥檙e sexually active, there is no 100 percent protection against contracting a sexually transmitted infection. We do have protection: For oral sex use a dental dam, glove or plastic wrap.

Lowest chance in the category.

Lesbians use Dental Dams for protection, so I have heard.

Perhaps a more appropriate question to ask would not be so much HIV, but HPV.

no bc lesbians dont do guys so there is a lesser risk. gay men r more likey to contrack hiv n aids bc they rarely use protection bc condoms aren't usual when having anal sex

well... there are female condoms... and if they are both tested and everything... well i'm sure they don't have higher chance...

There is statistic and even information about gays, they are exposed during sex to STDs

dental dams!
difficult to find but they're real

well nearly everyone with AIDS has HIV, but not everyone with HIV has AIDS so i would say HIV

they actually have a less chance of catching HIV or AIDS
think about it.....no penis?

No.

ah this is where it pays to be taking sex ed now a days. It is actually easier for homosexual MEN to contract these STD's (which technically had the name sexually transmitted disease to sexuallt transmitted infection or STI) because when preforming anal sex there is a good chance the skin will tear and there is more direct contact to the blood. allowing it much much easier to contract an infection.
This is why (in Canada at least) sodomy has a legal age limit of 18... I'm not sure how they regulate laws like this though... do they hire private investigators to hide in everyones butt??
Anyway as a lesbain, since protenction can be sparce I would say use a female condom (yes they make them). They are incirted into the vagina and is designed to stick to the cirvix. In many ways they are better than the traditional male condoms because they conver more external area (great protection there) and they can be kept on if say you are planning on having sex and you don't want to have to stop to put condoms on, you can put it in beforehand.
I'm sure if you used this it would help for sex between two females too.

To reduce your chances further there are a couple things you should take note of:
1. cold soars: this is the herpies virus, it is called oral herpies but more comonly heard of as cold soars, not many people know this is an STI because it does not have to be the result of sex.
You can contract oral herpies by simply being kissed by an aunt who had it when you were litte, or even a baby. you can get it from sharing a glass with someone who has an out break, simple things like this.
Herpies doesn't go away, even if you have no simptoms, you still have the virus and still have a chance of spreading it.
also, If someone with oral herpies (even without simptoms) preforms oral sex on another person, they can give that person genatal herpies.
To reduce your risk of sreading herpies, avoid having sexual contact when you have a cold soar, or think you are getting a cold soar. Also talk to your docter about what you should do to prevent this, there may be medication you can take to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.
2.only have sex with people you know (avoid one night stands with strange people you meet at the bar) and before you have sex make sure you both are clean of STDs, this means going to a docter and being tested so you know for sure :)

thats a good question, id imagine so. well it depends on how they did it. if they used a strap on probably not but if they scissored probably
