Scholarships?

I'm a upcoming senior in high school (yay!). I'm ready to go to prom, parties, etc. BUT I also want to be ready for AFTER graduation. So...I wanted to look for scholarships. I have colleges in mind and based on the most expensive of those, I will need at least 35,000 dollars.

I currently have no money & I've been on all types of financial aid sites.

Do you guys think you can help me in my search?

Here are some of my credentials:
My current (unweighted) accumulative gpa is 3.36/4.0.
My ACT score is 31/36.
My SAT score is 1810/2400.
My class rank is 11/293.
I'm African American.
I'm a female.
I want an engineering career.
I volunteer at the Hope House. (Working with HIV children)
I participate in various fundraisers and health walks.
I'm an excellent writer (for essay scholarships)
I play softball...
uh...that's it. lol

My family also has low income...can't forget that!

Based you your GPA and SAT/ACT scores you may be able to get merit based scholarships to some universities. You should fill out the FAFSA to see if you are eligible for need based aid. If you want to apply for scholarships, you can start at www.fastweb.com. You would have to complete a profile, and then they would show you scholarships that match. Some of the scholarships require essays, but some are need or merit based.

Tuition is fairly easy to get paid for. In Florida it's as easy as getting a 3.5 gpa and a 1270 or a 28 on the SAT/ACT will get 100% tuition paid for.

With numerous scholarships available, there is way to get to get the good majority of school paid for, but it doesn't help to ask. A friend of my mom son was very successful in school he was accepted to a school in New York, the FL scholarship didn't apply to him so he emailed the school saying he's grateful for being accepted and declined acceptance due to financial purposes.

From that email they actually gave him unpaid tuition and ended up going to school in NY. So a simple thank you email could go a long ways.

Community Colleges are pretty open to giving 100% softball scholarships. Good luck and just keep your eyes out locally for scholarships.

LOL this sounds like me this time last year.....first of all sign up on scholarships.com they have a lot of scholarships that they find for you. Second, when you fill out your FAFSA (which you should do as soon as your tax stuff comes in) there's this link on the online application that puts your information into this confidential database and it'll tell you what type of federal aid you're qualified for. I know of this scholarship for African American women that are going into engineering and math and if I recall correctly it's through Chevy. GOOD LUCK!
