Can HIV/AIDS be carried in food?

What if someone cuts theirself with a knife (whether they have the disease or not) and is not cleaned right way. Then, some time later whether weeks or months, someone else uses that knife to cut food with and eat the food. Can HIV/AIDS be caught this way?

No.

HIV/AIDS can only live for a very short time outside the human body. If someone cut themselves with the knife, the HIV would die outside the body in a very short amount of time. This is the same reason why mosquitoes do not pass HIV to humans after biting infected people.

Besides that you cannot get HIV from ingesting it. The only way you can contract orally is if you have an open cut or sore in your mouth and get infected fluids into the cut, not by swallowing it in food.

Edit:
A lot of people are confused about "spit" or saliva.
HIV is not transmitted in saliva.

Infectious Fluids:
Blood
Breast Milk
Semen
Vaginal Secretions

Bodily Openings:
Genitals (penis or vagina)
Anus
Open Cut/Sore
Mouth (open cut or sore in mouth, not ingestion)

HIV/AIDS is only transmitted by the above fluids getting into the above body openings. As long as you keep those bodily fluids out of those body openings you will not get HIV.

You CAN share utensils with an HIV + person and not need worry about becoming infected.

Chances are, NO. HIV really cannot live outside the human body for long periods of time, let alone weeks or months. So chances of them catching HIV/AIDS from that situation is very, very slim, if not impossible. If a person were saying they caught HIV/AIDS from this situation, I'd feel pretty safe telling them they were wrong and that they need to look at what else they've been doing.

Well I seriously doubt it, particularly if you are talking about weeks or months later. HIV virus dies quickly when exposed to air. We're talking like minutes, unless there is some kind of weird special circumstance which there isn't with a knife.

well, no. the hiv/aids virus dies exactly eight seconds after it hits the air. even if someone with the virus gets blood in the food, it would be pretty much impossible for someone else to pick up the virus.

No HIV/AIDS can only survive in blood so the usage of the knife after someone cut themselves would have to be moments after.

No because HIV dies very quickly when exposed to air, like 30 to 60 seconds later.

The AIDS virus is extremely weak outside of the body.
And when I say extremely weak, I mean just minutes or hours and it will die.

So no.

no, it's only directly transmitted, such as sex, needles, or blood transfussions!

btw: does anyone give best answers anymore?

one little dot of blood is not enough to transfer.... just like that spitting thing someone just said...it would take gallons of spit.... you are more likely to catch it with intercourse and blood transfusion....hoped that helped

Doubtful

No, once the virus is exposed to air, it is no longer a threat.

No but i know that hepatitis is.

No. HIV needs a host to survive.

yes throw the knife away

unless that knife was washed(and I would SURE hope so) then yes.

Nope

i THINK if someone infected spit in your food it could.
