McCain on equal pay: 鈥業 don鈥檛 think you鈥檙e doing anything to help the rights of women.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) skipped the vote on the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which would have made it easier for women and other workers to pursue pay discrimination claims. At the time, McCain explained his opposition to the bill by saying that instead of equal pay protection, women simply needed 鈥渆ducation and training.鈥?Asked about his opposition to the bill at a townhall today, McCain told a 14-year old girl that he didn鈥檛 think protections for equal pay would do 鈥渁nything to help the rights of women鈥?

McCain singled out a 14-year old woman who questioned why he opposes eliminating the statute of limitations on lawsuits over workplace discrimination, arguing it amounted to opposing 鈥渆qual rights for women.鈥?(Sometimes it take several years before women recognize the pattern of discrimination)

鈥淚f you eliminate the statutes of limitations, and you make it unending, you may be violating the rights of the individuals who are being sued, whether they鈥檙e a man or a woman,鈥?the senator responded. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 think you鈥檙e doing anything to help the rights of women, except maybe help trial lawyers and others in that profession.鈥?br>

Almost no men from his generation really feel that women should have equal rights, and this Attitude was even stronger in the career military. He said it all when he called his wife a c*** in public.

On the HIV in Africa issue. Most of the countries are catholic and condoms are forbidden in those countries or not endorsed. So abstinence is the only way they can try to stop that.
During the late 80's and early 90's we had the good balance of teaching that abstinence was the only 100 percent way of being safe. However we where also teaching Safer Sex in the schools that just a condom was not enough your had to make sure they where latex condoms with monoxnil 9. This did work, the spreading of aids slowed in the country. While Bushes policy isn't the greatest teen age pregnancy did go down, so one may ague it works.

The fair pay act also eliminated overtime pay for many of the workers out in the work force.
