Is it true that oral sex is the less risky form of contracting hiv during intercourse?`?

We are doing a project on HIV aids as a health unit at the moment - we have read numerous times that unprotected oral sex has fewer risks when contraccting hiv - only when there are open sores in the mouth there is risk as hiv needs blood stream - is this true?

Actually, oral sex is considered a low risk activity.
HOWEVER, this doesn't mean there is no risk. What would you prefer? Low risk or No risk?
From what I have found out - performing fellatio is a higher risk than performing cunnilignus, which is considered the low of the low risk activities that have direct sexual contact.

No.

Condoms Provide a Defense

Safe sex or protected sex refers to the practice of any sexual activity in a safe manner and is focused on preventing the propagation of sexually transmitted diseases, normally with the use of contraceptives devises like condoms. Practicing safe sex is in theory impossible since every sexual activity presents some sort of risk, especially when there is fluid exchange between partners, however by using a condom the chances of contracting an infection is reduce drastically.

Oral sex is a form of sexual intercourse whereby a person will stimulate a partner鈥檚 vagina, in case of a woman, or penis when on a man, with the use of the mouth and tongue. When the oral sex is performed on a woman it is referred to as cunnilingus and when on a man it is referred to as fellatio. Oral sex can also be performed on the anus for stimulation purposes and this sexual act is referred to as analingus. Contrary to popular believe oral sex is not safe against every sexually transmitted disease, even when performed with extreme caution. Some of the more common diseases transmittable via oral sex include Chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes and hepatitis. To minimize the risks of contamination the best solution is to use condoms and dental dams when performing or receiving oral sex.

Safe sex is only possible if both sexual partners take an active role in the prevention process and enforce the use of contraceptives whenever performing any sex act.

Yes oral sex is MUCH less risky. If someone get a fluid in their mouth that has HIV in it, the amount of time the HIV is in the mouth is short. Not to be gross but a person spits or swallows. If you spit the fluid out it's not there to infect you, if you swallow the acid in your stomach will kill the HIV. As long as a person's mouth is free of open sores there is no risk for HIV infection. Now with that said there is a risk for STD's of the throat.

With unprotected anal or vaginal sex HIV can live in either cavity for up to 5 days, a lot longer time for infection to take place.

i dont think so. hiv is contracted through bodily fluids and if you think about it you're basically ingesting someone elses bodily fluids and can enter the blood stream through your stomach. it is also contracted through open wounds but isnt ingesting it into your body the same thing?

nope even tho you dont have a open sore you could contract a disease al tho you don know what diseases might the other person have so its a risk decision normally all have an open cut but might not be visible to the human eye it doesnt matter how small is you still have the risk to catch something

no its isn't it is just as risky.

if its oral sex to you (meaning she is givin' you head) then us a flavored condom..

Less risky? Yes. But there IS still RISK.

You've read it not once, but "numerous times", have you not?

your stomach acid kills the hiv virus

from what i have heard it is correct
but i am no expert in the area of STD's

All else fails ... google it
