Slowing the process of HIV/AIDS before it actually develops?

I've recently had to learn about the topic of AIDS/HIV in health, and a question has popped into my head. This may be a dumb question, but no one is willing to answer me.
If HIV/AIDS takes up to 6-10 years to fully develop the disease or STD, couldn't doctors or scientist produce a medication (antibiotic or whatever) to kill the bug before is starts to feed? Couldn't they just provide people who think they might have AIDS with this type of med. to kill it before it starts. Maybe vaccines could be made to give everyone. I mean HIV/AIDS can take a while to begin destruction, so there is time to destroy it.
I don't know much about this, so like i said this may be extremely stupid to ask.

I don't know, these are just some thoughts that haunt me.
I'm terrified of this.

Slowing the process would be getting the antiviral medication. Which prolongs your life which is slowing the process. They have antiviral meds in the shot/vile, drinks, and pills. Also have a healthy immune system. Having a good diet and taking vitamins to build the immune system. Exercising. The problem with HIV are the strains and it mutating itself so quickly.......

The reason there is no cure for HIV, the virus that can lead to AIDS, is that the virus mutates (changes) rapidly, so any one medication or vaccine may be effective against a few mutations, but not all of them.

HIV kills CD4 cells. These cells help us fight infections. Once the CD4 cell count drops to 200 or below, diagnosis changes to AIDS. It is true that most people who have HIV have no symptoms for many years, and it could take 10 years or more for diagnosis to change to AIDS, but HIV starts damaging the immune system immediately.

Even though there is no cure for HIV, medications can help many people who have HIV live longer, healthier, and increase the amount of time between diagnosis of HIV and diagnosis of AIDS.

The meds they treat HIV infection with now do slow down the process, but because the virus replicates and changes over time, its impossible to stop it completely. Vaccinations haven't been successful since there are so many different strains of the virus. Using latex condoms is the best protection against HIV infection.

Well I think a good precaution to take is not to get HIV/AIDS in the first place. If people stop spreading it, then that increases the chance it will die out. Unfortunately this is an imperfect world in which we live

The problem is HIV mutates far too quickly to produce any kind of pre-treatment..

Protect yourself. Practice safe sex and don't share needles.

Theres already vaccines to prevent u from getting them and if u do have them to like u said.. Kill the disease.. thooe take longer and arent 100% succesful..

Boost your immune system. Take multi vitamin or a garlic pill.

First of all HIV is the virus that can lead to a diagnosis of AIDS, and yes it can take 6-10 and more like 10-12 years before HIV becomes AIDS, but this is only if a person does not get a HIV test to know if they are infected or not.

Once a person tests and know they are HIV+ if they take medications they can go years being HIV+ and not have AIDS. I know people what have been HIV+ for 25 years and never turn into AIDS.

The sad news is that once a person is infected there is no pill that has been developed to clean the body of the virus. And even sadder is the virus mutates with in the body and will become resistant to medications which need to be monitored carefully.

This is not a dumb question, it is essentially the question that had driven researchers who are working to develop new treatments [anti-retroviral drugs] and a vaccine to prevent HIV infection for the past 25 years.

The purpose of existing drugs used to treat HIV infection [anti-retroviral drugs] is to limit the damage to the immune system caused by HIV and prevent the onset of symptoms that we call AIDS. This doesn't destroy HIV or remove it from the body, but the idea is to keep HIV in check and extend the period of time before someone develops AIDS.

A Vaccine to prevent HIV infections does NOT exist yet. However, there are many clinical trials in various stages all around the world to develop a safe and effective vaccine to prevent HIV infection. There are also trials for theraputic vaccines. Theraputic vaccines also do NOT exist yet, but the idea is that it could be given to someone who is already infected with HIV and prevent the progression of HIV or prevent the destruction of the immune system which is the cause of AIDS.

You can find out much more about HIV and AIDS at www.safeguards.org and more about HIV Vaccine Research at www.bethegeneration.org

HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. AIDS is the complication of infections within the organs in the body. Many people today live for many years without the onset of AIDS because of modern medicine's ability to keep the virus at bay. The exact strain of HIV the person contracts, the health of the individual, and current medical issues can also affect the symptoms and progression of the virus. Check out the Center for Disease Controls tidbit on HIV and AIDs for more information. As it stands today, there is not a way to completely wipe it out of a person. I guess we can all just hope that one day there will be a cure to help those who are infected and vaccinate those who are not against getting it.
