HIV-AIDS question.............? |
If you have HIV and get a cold will it take longer to go away then usual? (Will you immune system have trouble combating it?) Will it get worse? if someone just got the infection STI and get a cold 2 yrs later will the immune system have trouble fighting it then as instead of living with the infection longer? And will the person get sick right away in the beginning of the infection? Does the infection take time to 'kick in" is what im asking? The HIV virus basically attacks the T4 cells which play a vital role in the immune system. That's why when a person has AIDS(T4 count less than 200) they are more susceptible to opportunistic infections like the common cold. When you are first infected you may have some symptoms like the flu but not notice any other signs. Over time the virus replicates slowly waiting for a chance for the immune system to be called into action. So If you are HIV pos and not sick you can break your arm and your immune system is called into action as it produces the immune response it is also producing more HIV at the same time. So you can see how this changes things for the worse. A cold may be a minor thing or a major thing depending on his age and physical condition, diet, etc. Each individual has their own response. The strain of HIV is also an issue if he has acquired his virus from someone that is currently on drug therapy for it then your friend may not respond to that same treatment. Each HARRT regime is tailored to the patient and his genotype of HIV. I have personally known people that were HIV pos for 15 to 18 years before starting on medication. This is all about the individual and their immune response . Hello, Justin; I think it is most compassionate of you to try to understand the nature of the HIV disease. But I would strongly urge you to go and ask at the STD clinic ( sexually transmitted disease) at your nearest hospital. There you will be given understanding and the right answers to the questions you want to ask. HIV/AIDS affects your immune system. When people die from AIDS, it's usually a cold/flu that actually killed them because they can't fight it off. So yes, if they get a cold/flu, then may die. Wash your hands a lot when you are with your friend. yes HIV-AIDS is serious so serious that there is no cure doctors just give you a cocktail of all their strongest drugs to see what might help the immune system is almost completely suppressed so it takes about three times as long for ppl to over come even just a common cold. they could even die from it. luckily for you i just finished learning bout all that stuff in health class. hivs job is to destory the immune system so getting sick isnt so good if you have hiv. so if you have any more ?s ill try to do my beat to answer them aids = autoimmune deficiency syndrome. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... www.webmd.com and read up....yes..with any immune disease your body has a hard time fighting things off... |
