Is it possible to create a drug that reverses reverse transcription caused by HIV?

while i know that hiv reverses transcription what im talking about it is mutating the hiv gene to make it reverse what it does to make the gene go back to normal

I think it's a great question to ask, and it doesn't matter whether or not it would work. People are trying all over the world to figure out ways to block what HIV does within cells it infects, and the different classes of drugs that have already been developed attack different points in the replication of the virus.

With respect, it's fairly clear from the way you ask your question that you're not hugely familiar with the cycle of the human immunodeficiency virus. But that doesn't matter; it's still good to think about these things. There's any number of things that would make a difference in the treatment of HIV infection, and blocking reverse transcriptase (the enzyme HIV uses to replicate itself using the host's DNA) is in fact one of the things that some of the HIV drugs do (look up AZT, the very first anti-retroviral drug used for treating HIV).

It's misleading to think of what the HIV's genes do as being "abnormal." It's quite normal for the virus, and it's a very successful survival strategy (for the virus, not for us). HIV mutates at a really remarkable rate. I'd suspect that any attempt to treat HIV by trying to mutate its own genes, if that is what you mean, would fail quickly because the virus would simply mutate further and become reisistant to the treatment. But don't let that stop you from trying to figure out a way.

There are drugs that block reverse transcription. These drugs, along with many others, have made it so HIV is no longer a death sentence. Scientists are working on a cure, but it's not easy. Maybe there will be one someday soon, but it's not likely.
