Are you legally obligated to inform your partners of you STD/Communicable Disease Status?

I鈥檓 watching the Law & Order 鈥淐arrier鈥?epi 193 from 1998 about a guy that goes around giving women HIV. That made me think about a girl I graduated from HS with that ended up getting HPV & even after she knew she had it鈥?She miscarried an unplanned pregnancy because of her drug/alcohol use & they found cervical cancer after she went to the doctor鈥?&she told us, her female friends, but told us not to tell anyone she was intimate with because it was 鈥淣one of their business鈥? She was a TOTAL whore &she had gone through almost the whole neighborhood so we didn鈥檛 know who had been exposed &who had not鈥?We weren鈥檛 even sure how long she had it! Do you tell those she slept with a week ago? A month ago? A year ago? No one knew when she got it so she might have exposed 4 people or 40!

This all made me wonder if the laws in the US had changed since the Law & Order epi in 1999

Most STD鈥檚 are UNCUREABLE! ALL are very easy to spread鈥?If 鈥榶ou鈥?know you have something & you don鈥檛 tell your partner & THEY find out later鈥?Do they have any legal recourse?

Everyone I know that is not in a monogamous relationship gets tested every 3 months just to be sure鈥?THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE鈥?But if you KNOW you have something &pass it on, the person you give it to should have SOME FORM of legal recourse鈥?br>
Like, if I caught something, I couldn鈥檛 afford medication to keep it at bay! If I was responsible &asked them &insisted we use protection yet something still gets through, I SHOULDN鈥橳 HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL if my partner lied to me.What is the current legal standing on this issue?

Thank goodness I don鈥檛 have anything& I am so paranoid that I doubt I ever will but ANYTHING is possible! I would rather know NOW in case something happens to me in the future and a scum bag gives me their plague!

It is against the law to have sex and not tell the partner of the STD beforehand. If charges are filed, the person with the STD can go to jail/prison. If you are sure she's positive, yes tell those you know so they can get checked too. If she has passed the disease on to anyone else, she should be reported to the Police Dept./ Health Dept. If you have names of those infected, report that to the Health Dept. as well.
Now this is a serious matter, if you submit false reports you can go to jail. So before you do anything, make sure your facts are accurate, Ok?

it's not illegal to keep your personal information to yourself. However when it comes to serious stuff like that it's just the right thing to do but no one can make you. I think everyone should let their partners know if they have an STD because its not fair to them to let them think they are in a safe relationship when they could be getting something deadly. but no its not illegal to lie, it's just not right.

I did not read the whole thing you wrote because it sounds like HS BS so I don't care but it would normally be expected for you to date responsibly and tell people about these issues

I have HPV and I tell every guy I sleep with. None of them seem to care. HPV isn't a big deal at all. The focus needs to be on women getting regular pap smears. I would think that HIV would be a MUCH bigger deal and I think there are laws against spreading it when you KNOW that you have it because it is fatal. HPV won't kill you or harm you in any way as long as you get regular paps. And men, it does nothing to them. Also, the HPV test has only been aproved for women over 30 as far as I know so most people DON'T know that they have it unless they get a wart or an abnormal pap. It's really not just a "whore" disease and I've been told by my doctor that it is estimated that somewhere between 70-85% of my generation has it (I'm 27 by the way).

Yes, especially if they are possibly fatal. You can end up in civil court at the least if they die for wrongful death lawsuit.

It SHOULD be law but unfortuantely it is not. Think of it this way... given the example in your question that somehow some way you got the disease or whathaveyou against your will and if you took that person to court, what would you say? "I insisted on wearing a condom but he said no." To avoid penalty, what would he say "No, she never said that- we agreed on it." Now its your word against his- there is no proving who did what... There is no way to prove who is right. And on top of that, I dont think you can put someones medical history on blast like that.

Its sad and people shouldnt have sex after they get an STD but they do anyway and we all have to deal.
