Should a prescription be required to buy syringes?

Most states have repealed laws that require a prescription to purchase syringes, but a few still refuse.

Do you know what the law in your state is regarding sale of syringes? Do you agree or disagree with your states current law?

Explain the reasons you think it should or should not require a prescription to purchase syringes from a pharmacy.

Some things to consider:

* Will it promote or condone drug use?
* Will it reduce the spread of diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis?
* What about diabetics who don't have insurance or can't afford to see a doctor regularly to keep prescription up to date?
* Should they be allowed to sell to someone they know is going to use it for illegal drugs or should the pharmacist have discretion?

Yours, is an interesting question... I personally don't believe that they should be because for those people whom are drug users.. would not have access to clean syringes...(which in turn just promotes the usage of dirty ones)...also it would increase the price of the product.. and that's never a good idea...for the diabetics whom already pay too much to live a semi decent life, and for those drug users who will again not pay for a new syringe when they could be paying for the next hit....

I give my self allergy shots- no you don't have to have a prescription, but they are a lot cheaper if you do. Report It

Sale of syringes against precription is primarily to check against their use for banned & hallucination inducing drugs. It shall also stand as guard against purchase of reused syringes if sold by the pharmacist. It is a bold step & all states & individuals should support it.

it should remain illegal to purchase syringes without a prescription for many reasons:

1. this will make is easier for drug users to support their habit, thru having these laws inplace it acts as a deterrent against illicit drug use.

2. and it will reduce the risk of the afforementioned diseases

3. as for the diabetics who can not afford to purchase these when they can not see a doctor can usually go to their local hospital to recieve free emergancy replacement syringes.there are also many health care agencies that assist low income patients with ongoing supplies and support.

4. in some aspects it does appeal to give the pharmacist the power of discretion as they would be familiar with the signs of recognising an illegal drug user, however, it may also allow for discrimination and prejudices to surface it is a fine line and one to be discussed and debated for years to come.

but overall weighing up the pros and cons i would recommend for all states and all countries to be in complience with a generalised law that a prescription is required for all syringe purchase. no matter who or why it is needed.
