Indicate why people infected with HIV most often die of another infection, such as pneumonia.? I would say it's because HIV is an immune deficiency, and that leaves your body open to attract any other virus. Your body cannot produce enough (T-Cells) I believe they are called to fight off the bad guys, and after awhile you die. HIV is Human immunodeficiency virus. That is medical lingo for being immune suppressed. You are not creating white cells, which fight disease. In particular you are not manufacturing T4 cells, which is a specific type of white cell which is a super white cell. Once you are immune suppressed, every little bacteria and virus that normally can't get a foothold in your body, is now able to attach to good cells and cause havoc in large numbers. Antibiotics work to a degree, but when you are immune suppressed, for some reason, you tend to get infected more often than the regular population with antibiotic resistant bacterias, and virus's that are resistant to the anti virals that are available. That is why the drug cocktail for AIDS changes so often, and why they haven't been able to come up with a cure. On the other hand, they have been able to find a happy medium where the antivirals, and the HIV virus do a balancing act. It suppresses the virus and the virus doesn't grow, but it doesn't kill the virus, so it still causes you to be immune suppressed. You live very much as transplant patients do. A lot of medication, high risk for infection and viruses, but stable most of the time. You can live for a very long time in this state. Hope this helps. Because HIV attacks the immune system and when it gets full blown it is called AIDS(Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) and makes the immune system very weak. Thus allowing a greater possibility for you to be infected with other illnesses without the immune system to fight them off. So then you die from the illness. |
