BACTERIAL INFECTION IN THE VIGINA??

I WENT TO GET A PEP SMEAR TODAY AND THEY TOLD ME I HAD AN INFECTION IN MY VIGINA, THEY TOLD ME THE NAME BUT I CANT REMEMBER , ITS NOT YEAST INFECTION BUT THE DOC GAVE ME A MEDICINE CALLED METRONIDAZOLE GEL TO PUT IT AT NIGHT, IS IT BAD??? IS THE INFECTION BAD, IS IT HIV OR SOMETHING?? IM REALLY SCARED SHOULD I TELL MY BOYFRIEND ABOUT IT SO HE CAN GET CHECKED?? IM AFRAID IF IT GOES AWAY WITH THE GEL AND HAVE SEX , WOULD IT COME BACK, BUT THAT WOULD MEAN MY BF HAS THE INFECTION??

I KNO I SHOULD HAVE ASKED THESE QUESTIONS WHILE AT THE OFFICE BUT I WAS SO SCARED AND NERVOUS THAT I DIDNT THINK OF IT UNTIL NOW, IT WAS MY FIRST PEP SMEAR

If it's something very bad they would of told you and gave your tests after tests.but if they gave you gel/cream it will go away soon but you should tell your boyfriend but only if it lasts a while but be patient and if it does not go away go to the doctors and get checked :) just don't do any intercourse until it's healed.your bf most likely wont have it.A bacterial infection is just from bacteria because there's lots of things happening down there ;) hope you use this info and just always check .

You should have asked your doctor all these questions before you left. First of all, it is NOT HIV -- this cannot be diagnosed visually. Also, that is viral not bacterial. The medicine you were given is used for treating vaginal infections with protozoa such as Trichomonas vaginalis, ameba, and giardia and also is effective against anaerobic bacterial infections. If you haven't been using a condom, you should tell your boyfriend. These types of infections CAN recur.

BTW, you can always CALL the doctor's office to ask, even now.

You should go back and ask the doctor those questions. Taking advice for a medical problem from unknown sources online is too risky.

In the meanwhile, use your medication and do not have sexual intercourse with your current boyfriend or anyone else!!! You are putting both your own and your partner's health at risk. Yes, you should tell him about your illness.

Sorry but these are the questions you should have asked the doctor before you left his office

it's probably bacterial vaginosis or trich. Don't worry, your doc probably gave you antibiotics or a vaginal antibiotic cream. It will go away. If yopu have trich, your bf needs to take antibiotics or you will get it again. If it's bacterial vaginosis, he might want to talk to a doc about some antibiotics, but BV isn't an "std", per se. You can get it from bacteria introduced into the vagina during sex, but you can also get it without ever having had sex. It can happen like a yeast infection happens, from an imbalance of flora in the vagina.

**okay, durr- I just read that your doc gave you metro gel. Don't even worry about it, you have BV and the gel will clear it up in no time.***
