Can thinking about pain in certain body part actually cause pain?

Hello,

I'm very afraid of beging infected with HIV (I'm now in my 10th week after possible infection, it was a real risk, but i have to wait 2 more weeks for a reliable result). It started 2 weeks ago when I noticed acne like bumps on my back and chest, and having a dry cough. That's when I started to worry. In the beginning of this week I started having night sweat, some nights more severe than other night, always accompanied by bad dreams). Last night I felt a slight pain in my crotch area, so I thought those were my lymph nodes. And everytime i focus my mind on those lymph nodes I feel them, and they feel irritated. Then I started paying attention to my arm pits, and now I feel irritation in my arm pits, while the irritation in my crotch area kind of disappeared.

My question is: If you focus with your mind (and touching it even once) on one part of the body, is it possible that you feel irritation in those parts of the body?

Psychologically Induced Pain Syndromes (PIPS) is the categorical name of physical conditions that are that the direct result of psycho-emotional processes. Psychological back pain is just one of many pain syndromes caused by emotional repression.

Psychological pain syndromes are actually defense mechanisms designed to cover up sensitive or unresolved emotional issues. The subconscious mind feels that these issues are so threatening to the well being of the individual, that it will do anything to prevent the issues from becoming conscious. This process is called repression. When repression is not enough to guarantee that the painful issues will remain hidden, the subconscious will create a psychosomatic pain syndrome to preoccupy the conscious thoughts of the individual. This conscious focus on the pain is a very effective means of making sure that repressed emotional issues remain well hidden.

The answer to your question is 'yes'.

Heck yes. I get it alot, like I'll think about having tingly hands.. boom they're there. Headaches, anything. And I just take my mind off them and they're gone. I'm scared of certain diseases and things like meningitis and 'super bugs' so when I think about the symptoms and things they just appear =\

yes it can if you picture it in ur head sometimes u can feel it
