Could I have an HIV infection?

I know this is alot, but if you can bear with it, please help me. I am a worried heterosexual male, and almost one year ago to the day, I had unprotected sex with a girl. About 3-4 weeks later, I got diarrhea and lost about 10 pounds. If I remember correctly, I didn't really have a fever or a headache, just the diarrhea. (I did have a hamburger that morning...I got sick later that night. I assumed food poisoning). I never got a sore throat, any rash, or swollen lymph glands. I've never had any dry cough, any profound fatigue, white spots in my mouth or tongue, and no strange colored blotches on the mouth, skin, or eyelids. I haven't experienced any memory loss, depression, or other neurological disorders, either. The diarrhea went away about one and a half weeks later. I gained the weight back over the summer.

Around 4 months ago, I developed small, herpes-looking bumps on my penis and just above it. Though the initial palce they started (which was also the largest concentration of bumps) recently went away, and now they are just on my pelvic area and there are just a few left on my penis. I looked up what it could be, and I figured either herpes or molluscum contagiosum. Molluscum is supposed to show up several months after you get it, so I thought maybe she could've given me that? I've been getting about 8-12 cold sores on my lips a year since I was a child (my mother gets them, too), so I was guessing it might have something to do with those? Again, I'm no doctor. I went to my doctor when an initial 2 bumps showed up on my pelvis back in July or August, and he said they were infected hair follicles and gave me a cream, and they went away. It was about 6-7 months later that the small ones showed up.

While reading up on what these bumps could be, I ran across something that said herpes could be linked to an AIDS infection or something. This scared the hell out of me, and when I saw that one of the symptoms (out of the many) was diarrhea and weight loss right around the time I got it, I was freaked out. But would this symptom come this late, assuming I have it?

Also, I can recall within the last few months (about 4 or 5 times) the lymph nodes under my armpits swelling, but only for a day, then it goes away for a few weeks. I don't think this happened before the last few months or so.

I know this was alot of information, but I wanted to tell the whole story so I could get the most informed answer. Does this sound like an HIV infection? Are the symptoms the same? Can they happen this far after contracting it? Or could it be something else...maybe the girl had some kind of infection or something, and maybe it really was food poisoning? Thank you VERY much for your help!

**Also, what symptoms last past that initial 2-6 week period after infection and which ones dont? THANKS!

The only way to know if you have HIV infection is to get tested for it. That's it. You can drive yourself insane over signs and symptoms all you want, it's not going to answer anything. Get an HIV test!

Also do some more in-depth research on AIDS and HIV. You are bouncing back and forth between symptoms of both of those. If you had AIDS you would know by now (and it would take way longer than a year). If you are simply HIV positive, you wouldn't be seeing opportunistic diseases linked to it.

Finally, those symptoms you are referring to that happen after initial HIV infection - those flu-like symptoms are so generic that you cannot assume they are due to HIV. Also, only about half of newly infected people experience that syndrome. It differs by person and frequently doesn't happen at all, so, it's not considered to be diagnostic of HIV.

GET A TEST and STOP FREAKING

wow. that's scary. I wish I had a good answer for you. My only suggestion is that you go get tested. It's free at a health unit. Definitely get that checked out ASAP. And good luck to you.
