Why do conservatives have such a problem with seeing gay people as "family members" and "neighbors"?

I've asked a number of question pertaining to gay rights on Yahoo, and whenever I ask them outside of the GLBT section, I get some really hateful and atrocious answers.

For instance, if you believe that homosexuality is some kind of "mental disorder" - then why not afford gays at least the same respect you would give someone who suffers from chronic depression or schizophrenia?

And if you think of homosexuality as a sin, then why would you vote for a man who has had 3 wives (Newt Gingrich, John McCain etc..) but not consider a candidate who has been with the same partner for 20 years?

If you view homosexuality as a kind of sex-addiction, then why not say that alcoholics should not be allowed to marry eachother?

If you view homosexuality as a "crime" then why do we allow rapists and murderers to get married and have children?

If you think gay people spread diseases like HIV, then shouldn't black women be forbidden to join the military or get health insurance since their rate of infection is growing more rapidly than gays?

Not all conservatives are that bad. The ones in California are pretty accepting and nonjudgmental, at least. They just don't think it's ok for people of the same sex to get married, but support equal rights. Overall I think acceptance of gay people is getting better, as evidenced by it's legalization in several states already, and the likelihood that prop 8 will probably be overturned next year. I say forget most social conservatives and neocons anyways, as they are rapidly becoming extinct and are proud of their closed-minded views on this issue. There is no point in wasting our energy on them.

Homosexuality is not a disorder, it is the main cause of hiv as it was one gay male flight attendant that was linked to all the cases of hiv in the U.S. Homosexuality needs to be put back in the closet I do not care what people choose to do in their bedrooms I just do not want to exposed to it and jammed into my life and forced to accept it.

It's new, just wait for the next generation believe me, they play as kids together and they'll play with each other during their adult years. No really, because just like the unemployed, being gay is taking the easy way out. Man and Woman are from two different planets, didn't you hear. However it pays out less, no natural child birth, worst sex, beatdowns etc.

They have been brainwashed to believe that everyone should be just like them and if they are not, it is their job to change them.

How do you know the people answering your questions are conservative?

They also want to cut spending, but want us to go into Iran... That party is a joke..

Hate isn't easy to overcome, some people just have too much of it.
