Possible HIV transmission?

I'm guessing there's not so much to worry about, but can HIV be transmitted to me if I used someone else razor a few hours after they last used it? My father was stuck with a dirty needle at work, and he's just cautious since it's possible that he could be infected, and told me to stop using his razor after I used it this morning.

I read that the virus can only live for a few minutes without a host, and it has been around twelve hours or so since he last used it. I don't think I cut myself, but definitely not noticeably.

What are some other infections to be cautious about?

I wouldn't worry too much about anything, really. It isn't a good idea to use anyone else's grooming equipment, though.

Was your father recently exposed to a healthcare-related needle stick injury? Even if there was known HIV+ blood in the syringe, HIV is only transmitted 0.3% of the time with needle-stick injuries with KNOWN HIV+ blood.

There really isn't a cause for concern in your case....but here are some possible issues

While Hep B is extremely infectious, most people have been vaccinated and are safe (if you haven't been, get vaccinated!).
Hep C transmission is something that is possible, but not likely to have occurred. Sharing blood-stained equipment most likely could result in transmission, but if it does so, does so very infrequently (less than 1% of diagnosed cases of HCV). But, you may want to have a HCV antibody test to rule it out (about 6 months from the time of exposure) and a HBV (Hep B) antibody test (if you haven't been vaccinated.....get vaccinated) If you have been vaccinated, the antibody test for HBV will come back positive
Hope this helps

Once outside the body, exposed to air, HIV dies in a few minutes, so you would not have gotten HIV.
However, Hepatitis C is also transmitted by infected blood/needle sticks, and once outside the body, exposed to air, hepatitis C can live for 4 days, so you would be at risk of getting hep C if you cut yourself.

Why are you using your father's razor? LOL

Are you using someone else toohbrush also? LOL

Infections?

One of the worse diseases to contract is hepatitis.

Whether your father contracted HIV may be possible. Even if he did, it would take some time to detect. Chances are, probably not!

Well if you do have HIV (which I doubt) it was your own fault for not having your own razor.

I think you are fine..get your own razor. just one question..did you get cut from the razor? If not no worries.
