How doesHIV control the body?

HIV can cause a deadly infection which is thought to have evolved from a non-human primate virus. In your own words, answer the following questions about how it is transmitted and how it affects the body in one to two well-developed paragraphs.
a. What are the main routes of HIV transmission? Why can't HIV be transmitted through the air?
b. HIV infection is a fatal infection, but victims are not always killed by the virus itself. They generally die from other diseases that a healthy individual can resist. How does the virus disable the immune system? Be sure to describe the general infection-fighting process and how it is interrupted. Be sure to define any unusual terms.

HIV infects cells by binding to the CD4 surface protein. It infects and destroys T helper cells. A normal immune response occurs soon afer the initial infection. HIV is neutralized and tagged for destruction by antibodies and virus levels drop. However some viral DNA survives incorporated into the T cell DNA and this produces new virus particles whever infected T cells are activated. Even though new T cells are continually produced, the virus evenutally wins, and T cell numbers begin to drop. The immune system cannot function without T cells and diseases normally prevented by a healthy immune system occur - AIDS.

a.) Wherever fluid enters the body. A virus which is dessicated by the air cannot function.

b.) The virus targets the surface molecule CD4 on a CD4+ T-cell. This interferes with the T-cell to bind to any antigen-presenting cell and proceed with its action of processing the cell and antigen to create antibodies for the active immune system.

HIV transmits through fluids..like cuts..or the vagina :D

well..the cells that remember how to kill viruses or bacteria, are attacked by HIV..so ure body basically forgets how to fight them..and u die.

I'm sure you could search wikipedia and find a better answer than anyone on here and you will get a better grade on your homework.
