Please help i need advice!!? |
ok my boyfriend works at a hospital. He didn't have gloves on and got hiv blood on his hand. They said he had no visible open cuts. He then received a PPE shot or something like that. I guess this shot is supposed to avoid infection somehow. Anyways they said they are going to test him one week later, three weeks, three months, and one year. Do I have to wait one year to have sex w/ him. B/c I read online that 97% of people show antibodies in 3 months. How long should i wait i'm scared. So far he's been tested one week, three weeks, and three months. Am I ok to have sex w/ him now? What are the chances that he could have it after testing negative 3 times. Also why do they want to test him after a year? I thought the max time was 3-6 months. please help I feel bad for you! I wouldnt know what to do either?? I guess if he's worth it just be safe and use a condom. well, i don't know much about the testing of blood, but what i do know is that you should use a condom until his final test comes back ok. use a condom during intercourse & any oral sex (him or you). the condom will keep any of those types of diseases from comming in contact with you. that is the best way to safe-guard. use a condom until he gets results back or, go with him to the doctor Why wasn't he wearing gloves while working in a hospital? Is he that foolish? I sure hope this scare teaches him a lesson. These tests he is undergoing are just to make sure if he is not really infected with HIV since as you mentioned he has no cuts or abrasions when he handled the blood with HIV.Remember that the route of transmissiong of HIV is perinatal& parenteral. The hospital is doing their job to protect their healthworkers and also for the rest of the patients.. As you see, HIV is really hard to detect. Often times, the window stage lasts for several months (although ideally in three months time, antibody is detected ) BUT this is NOT confirmatory of HIV. There are lots of screening tests and Confirmatory tests. So, testing for HIV is not only hard BUT rigoruous. You also have to take note that there is no signs or symptoms for this ( unless it is full blown ) so blood test is used to monitor it. You have to be patient if you really want assurance of zero infectivity. I mean, your BF has to know the STANDARD precaution, wearing gloves, mask, goggles & protective gowns. He works in the hospital, he must abide with it. For the meantime, dont undergo any intercourse..besides you are not even married, Hope this helps, God bless First - I work at a hospital, and I can tell you that he was incredibly stupid for not wearing gloves. Period. You are trained NOT to put yourself in jeopordy like that, and many hospital regulations repeat the phrase "Universal Precautions" over and over again to where you don't want to touch someone without gloves. Lady make him wear a condom until you know he is outthe clear, sounds real foolish of him to not wear gloves being he is in the medical proffesion AFTER NEEDLE STICK/ BLOOD EXPOSURE TO AN EMPLOYEE; THEY HAVE THE INITIAL HIV TEST TO MAKE SURE THEY DONT ALREADY HAVE THE DISEASE(HIV); ONCE NEGATIVE THEN HE IS RETESTED A SERIES OF TIMES; AFTER TREATMENT PROVIDED; THE RISKS FOR CONVERTED TO POSITIVE IS 0.1 %; 99.9% CHANCE HE WILL NOT BECOME INFECTED WITH TREATMENT ADVISED AT THE FACILITY; MANY HEALTHCARE WORKERS ARE AT RISK; I AM HEALTHCARE WORKER; I HAD NEEDLE STICK 10YRS AGO; THE PATIENT WAS END STAGE AIDS/DYEING; I TOOK THE COCKTAIL THAT WAS REQUIRED; I NEVER CONVERTED; I WAS TOLD THAT THE MOST SENSITIVE TIME WAS IN THE 1ST 6 MNTHS; IF I WAS GONNA CONVERT TO POSITIVE IT WOULD BE THEN; IF I HAD SEX TO HAVE SAFE SEX; MOST HEALTHCARE WORKERS ARE MARRIED/AS WITH ME; AFTER THE 6MNTH I WAS STILL FOLLOWED WITH TESTING FOR SAFE PRECAUTIONS FOR 2 YRS; THAT IS JUST THE PROTOCOL FOR HOSPITALS; I WAS TOLD THAT AFTER 6MNTHS I WAS OUT OF THE DANGER ZONE AND JUST BEING WATCHED. |
