Why doesn't South Africa want to start a Needle Exchange?

Over 10% of youths aged 15-24 are HIV-positive in South Africa and with children as young as 10 experimenting with drugs. Shouldn't they try to reduce the infection rate amongs injection drug users (IDUs).

The only reason I can think of that ANY country would not want to incorporate a drug exchange program would be because they want to reduce their population. It's just insane that any country would NOT be interested in keeping their HIV and other infection rates down.

Needle exchange programs also help to keep the cost of health care to a minimum for this sector of society. Rather than paying for the high cost of hospitalizations and other costs associated with HIV and other blood diseases due to needle sharing, a needle exchange program is much more cost effective.

If you are from Africa, I would recommend that you start advocating for a needle exchange program immediately for these very reasons. Good luck!!

Ignorance can cost a fortune... either people don't care or they just don't understand. Report It
