LONDON (AFP) - An Italian chef was found guilty in Scotland of deliberately infecting his girlfriend with theHIV virus.Giovanni Mola, 38, "aggressively" refused to wear a condom during sex with a woman, who was a virgin before the relationship started, the High Court in Glasgow heard.
"I feel like it's murder. I know it's a bit extreme, but I'm waiting to die," the woman鈥?told the court.
Mola was convicted of culpably and recklessly failing to tell the woman that he carried the infection and endangering her life and health between September 2003 and February 2004. Judge Lord Patrick Hodge told Mola, who claimed to have had 200 lovers, that the indifference he had shown to his victim had been "deeply disturbing". "

"While you've been struck by tragedy in acquiring HIV and hepatitis C from a former girlfriend, it's deeply disturbing that you should have been prepared to show such indifference to the health and welfare of Miss X," he said.

After being arrested over the offences, he went on the run back to Italy before being extradited last summer to face trial.

He originally came to Scotland in 1999 to flee unspecified charges in his homeland.

may be the guy is mentally disturbed as he himself is suffering so he wants others to suffer as well. i think he should be kept in mental hospital away from others

I think he should have to volunteer the remainder of his life in a hospital helping care for people dying of the AIDS virus.

Men need to learn that if they do a crime they will be punished SEVERELY. Of course if this was a woman, like these two:

The man should be sentenced to life in prison.
Never again free to infect another person.
Of course the other inmates would have to be warned that he is infected so they will avoid him if they have any sense.

People who are this calloused, will not stop on their own. Society should have the right to exclude them.

He is a mass murderer and if allowed to live, needs to be tattooed or branded at the very least.

If he was 38 and she was a virgin, what age group is he attacking? Young women, i suppose.

He is flying internationally, too. His photo should be circulated to stop him from importing his brand of death to communities around the world.

First off, It's ONE guy.

That said, since what he did was pretty serious although it WAS apparently consensual (although he did not wear a condom, it WAS his girlfriend, right?). I figure that some sort of law regarding deadly STD transmission without explanation of one's status should be passed, although I'm not sure what sort of punishment should apply. In this case, I would recommend a life of "volunteer" work.
