Red Spot on Uvula? Cancer?

What does it mean when there is a red spot on your uvula? It looks as though a blood vessel had popped on there. Is this a sign of acute HIV or cancer or any other serious illness? Or can it be cause by an infection as simple as a sore throat or cold?

Cancer of the vulva, the outer part of the female genitalia, is rare. Vulvar cancer most often occurs in women between the ages of 55 and 85, although it can also occur in women who are younger than 40.

More than 90 percent of vulvar cancers are squamous cell carcinomas 鈥?a type of skin cancer 鈥?that develop slowly over years and are preceded by precancerous changes in the surface of your skin. A small percentage of vulvar cancers begin as melanoma. Rarely, vulvar cancers may develop in the mucus-producing glands located on the sides of the vaginal opening. The exact cause isn't known. Human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection, may play a role.

Getting regular gynecologic exams may increase your chance of early detection of vulvar cancer, which means a better chance of successful treatment. You may also be able to prevent vulvar cancer by engaging in safe sexual practices to reduce your risk of contracting HPV infection, and you may be able to control other risk factors as well.

Recognizing possible signs and symptoms of vulvar cancer may help you detect the disease early, before it reaches an advanced stage. This may give you a better chance for successful treatment and long-term recovery. If you experience any of the following vulvar signs or symptoms, see your doctor:

* Itching that doesn't improve
* Burning, pain and tenderness
* Bleeding that isn't from menstruation
* Skin changes, such as color changes or thickening
* A lump or open sore (ulcer)

I suggest you to have a preliminary check up with your gynecologist and follow it up with specialist if needed.

Never take medical advice from someone who does not know the difference between the vulva and the uvula.

The uvula is located in the back of the throat.

The vulva is located at the entrance to the vagina. Report It

it is not a sign of acute HIV but it is something you might want your Dr to take a look at next time you see them. It could easily be a sign of a sore throat or minor infection. If you are having other symptoms or the spot grows or you start getting hoarse then see your Dr soon. It's probably nothing but you need to make sure, especially if you are a smoker.

There is no problem , if there is no coincidental ulcer or white surface near this lesion the probability of cancer is too low . it cloud be a result of irritation such as due to food , reflux , allergy and . . . But if it grows up , don't loose any time , and go to an ENT specialist as soon as you can .
