How come everyone hates safety pins here?

i just did a tattoo and posted a question where everyone yelled at me for using a safety pin because theyre "impossible" to sterilize. first of all, its not like i found it on the street or walked up to the nearest hiv + guy to get it. this was a fresh from the factory straight out of the sealed container. secoundly ive never had any problems with them, ive done most of my peircings with safety pins and have never had a major infection. in fact the only major infection ive had was just following the peircing of my left lobe, and you know what this one i had professionally done, so i dont know what conclusions you could draw from this but, what the **** is the problem with safety pins?

Saru.....It's not that we hate safety pins.....Safety pins have a purpose...... piercing and tattooing is not what they were made for. Most of the people who hang out here and answer these questions are tattoo artists and professional piercers or they are people who love tattoos and PAY PROFESSIONALS to tattoo them. So when you come along all proud of your indian ink homemade tattoos or your "diaper pin" piercings ...people tend to get a little upset and jump on you. (An analogy for you.....Think of tattoos as art......as sculptures for instance..... So everyone is looking at the sculptures carved of marble and stone. If you want one of these sculptures you pay an artist to do one for you....and you show up with a sculpture that YOU made of wads of old chewing gum......It's kinda lopsided and sticky and yucky and then you get upset when you're told that it isn't art) If you are interested in tattoos great.....First step TAKE ART LESSONS....If you can't draw it on paper what makes you think you can ink it on skin......Once you have a good firm background in illustrating find someone to take you on as an apprentice..... but enough with the safety pins.

I think that people were saying not to tattoo yourself more than trying to tell you the problems with safety pins. I saw your question earlier and read some of the answers. Also...I really hope that you don't feel that a safety pin that's "fresh from the factory" is super clean. Not sure what you used to sterilize your umm safety pin with either because they don't just wipe everything off with rubbing alcohol at tattoo studios. Piercing an ear lobe is different than tattooing yourself...a tattoo is a much more invasive procedure and also...what sort of ink were you using?

Regardless of whether you like the answers or not. You asked the question on a public message board...and many of the people that had answered your questions were tattoo artists and tattoo enthusiasts....you asked a question regarding everyone's thoughts on your actions and now you're b*tching because people didn't give you the answer that you wanted to hear.

People don't "hate" safety pins but they're not a tool that you use to tattoo yourself safely....

I had my belly button and my nipple pierced with a safety pin(couldn't go to a shop I was 13). And my mom did my nose with a sewing needle. Out of all of them my belly button was the only one to get infected and it was because I left the safety pin in and didn't put jewlrey in right away. I don't think it's the worst thing you can use as long as it's sterile.

I don't have a problem with safety pins, but I do have a problem wtih giving yourself a tattoo...scary!

I believe they're just concerned with others' safety. That's all. ^o^'
