I've always wondered about this, can anybody give a clear answer? |
When you look at the statistics of reasons why people get hiv its usually four main reasons..unprotected sex, sharing needles, mother to child, and blood transfusion from back in the day, the number of people who get it from "wound to wound" contact seems nonexistent. Now people get cut or scrapped or scratched all the time, sometimes without noticing, and there are alot of hiv positive people in the world. people bump into people all the time, combine all those elements and doesn't it seem likely hiv infected peoples wounds (no matter how small) rub up against non hiv infected peoples wounds without them noticing? so why isn't the cases of infection this way alot higher? is there something about this transmission scenario that makes it very unlikely that I'm not aware of? u need to chill out!! doubt that many studies have been conducted to determine the frequency of such transmission;therefore, lack of statistics I think its because when hiv comes in contact with air in seconds it dies and cannot be transmitted. Thats why alot of people get it without using protection when having sex. But i dont think its likely to get hiv with someones wound touching you unless they are extremly wounded and it gets into your eyes, or your wound very quickly. I could be wrong but this is just what i think. For one thing, most people wear clothing. For another, HIV is less infectious than was feared. The virus is very fragile and can't tolerate temperatures that are below 96 degrees or above 101 degrees (F). It also perishes quickly when exposed to oxygen and is easily killed by household chemicals (like rubbing alcohol, mouthwash, hydrogen peroxide, bleach, etc.) It also can't tolerate dehydration. Being circumsised seems to protect against getting it and transmitting it. Also, there is a theory that certain people are immune to it (there are documented cases). |
