Why do men who have sex with men still make up such a significant proportion of new HIV infections in the United States?

Originally AIDS was first discovered in Gay men. The reason is because of anal sex. The walls of the anal cavities are permeable and facilitate the passage of viruses like HIV but also any other STD's. This is the reasonwhy it is recommended to have safe sex with condoms.

Nowadays the HIV infection concerns equally heteros and Gays. Nowadays there is a trend for an increase in infection because many a person just think that with the existing treatment against AIDS they are safe. It has been noted that particularly young Gay men tend to have again unprotected sex resulting in force return of the infection but also with something more scary is that the virus is again muting and a new variant discovered two years ago in New-York does no longer react on the existing treatment and kills in a few weeks.


The risk to get AIDS has to do with sexual conduct. Mutliple sexual partners and unprotected sex is the perfect combination to get it quickly. While faithful and respectful committed relationship, one on one sex at all times is definitely at low risk.

Don't even try to state that it has anything at all to do with gay people. The largest number of infected people globally are heterosexual women and children.....not gay men.

Homosexuals have always been the scapegoat for AIDS. The actual majority of AIDS patients in the U.S. are heterosexual females, and most of them are minorities. As for you contracting AIDS, were a condom and don't sleep with random people. And don't do drugs, especially intravenous drugs. Be responsible, be educated, and you'll be safe. I hope that helped.

I am not quite sure where to begin answering your question as it is filled with doubt and misconceptions based on unverifiable information. While it is true that HIV infection rate amongst the gay male population is on the rise, compared to other portions of the population, it is still less than say the African American or the Latino population.
Being gay does not automatically mean that you will get HIV/AIDS. As a gay man, this is one of the hardest self-fulfilling prophecies that many had to overcome during the dark ages of AIDS. The link between AIDS and homosexuals is stereotyping and ignorance, and seeing neither of those are tangible, there isn't a link.

Edit: Though I will admit, I have heard stories of my homosexual-oriented brethren not using protection.

Because most of them like doing it in the back door. That is the major cause of the transmission of AIDS even with a condom it is not 100% protection.
