Why are the mutations in the HIV genome beneficial to itself when it comes to becoming resistant against?

the drugs that humans are using to combat the infection?

what part does "reverse transcriptase" play in this?

The benefits for HIV mutations to itself lie in the fact that the HIV can mutate and SURVIVE the drugs that researchers and drug companies make to kill off the virus. Otherwise this HIV problem would long have been solved with killer drugs for HIV.

Simply put, the mutant of HIV allows for its survival in the human as one drug conquers HIV, it mutates, survives to live again in another mutant form rendering that drug useless.

The "Cocktail of Drugs" That HIV patients take, is a combo of some 25 or more drugs, in an attempt to conquer the HIV's ability to mutate into a form in which there is noting to combat it. The cocktail has been sucessful in that the mutating HIV has been somewhat "stopped in its tacks" because it just doesnt seem to be able to mutate enough times to survive all 25 drugs in the cocktail.

Nowdays, some researchers say there is evicdence that even in some cases the Cocktail of drugs given will need to be of a greater number say like 50 drugs to be able to keep the HIV in check as the mutations of this deadly disease continue to avert more and more of the drugs in the present Cocktail. .

On Reverse Transcription, its a technique that allows the virus to transcribe a mutant form in the reverse order of the molecular structure in which its genome is aligned and this in intself, is a survival technique for the HIV virus. .

reverse transcriptonase (i know i spelled it wrong) is the process that hiv/aids uses to "rewrite" our dna. When our dna is rewritten, it cannot protect our body because it is looking at the new dna as an enemy and potentially attacking the "new" dna. hiv/aids is a retroviral desease meaning that it does go into the body and rewrite our body's make-up. the meds that are used for treating hiv/aids and other retrovirals are called "antiretroviral medications". Look under health on yahoo.com and you will see a link that says "drug guide" click on that and type in antiretroviral. that should bring up specific names of medications and any information about them. The reason hiv/aids is resistant to medication is because it rewrites our dna and science hasn't found a way to turn our dna back to how it is supposed to be. It's not just a simple disease, it changes our chemical makeup which changes everything in our body.
