Please Help...Might be Serious...? |
Today, in my school, some kid was using a pin that is sharp and was poking a lot of students with it. He poked my too with it and somone said you have chances of getting diseases such as HIV? Is it possible to get the HIV infection this way? and what about the thing were people say if HIV contacts with air, it dies? so do you think i might have it? i don't think i was bleeding...please tell me also your age and profession if you dont want to that's fine but please help. and that pin didn't have blood on it It is a possibility yes, I am 35 years old, and have been a nurse for 11 years. You are at risk of many different infections/ skin infections. If your skin was peirced, you are at risk for : Hepititis, Tetnus, lead posoning, any bacterial/viral skin infections, and maybe HIV. However HIV does not die when it reaches air, especially if your blood is exposed to the virus. You really need to report this person, and get a throrough exam from a Doctor. Yu may need a Tetnus shot if you havnt had one within 5 years. Even if there is no blood. Your skin has been broken, and contamination may be in the tissue. Yes, you are DEFINETLY at risk for contracting HIV. Whoever's blood was on that pin before it poked you may have spread any virus it contained around. Do yourself a favor and turn in the kid that was doing it. WHAT A HORRIBLE PRANK! I'm a medical school student, not a doc yet, but my opinion is that you should arrange a meeting with your normal check-up doc and tell him/her the whole story. They will probobly then order that a blood test be taken, but, if they dont, request that one be taken. its better to be safe then sorry! im really nto sure cause i thought if it does not have blood on it u cant get it but u need to ask your mom and dad and get a check and tell that boy not to do that or there are going to be some problems dude that is some serious stuff. Go tell your principal IMMEDIATELY. Here is the deal. HIV is extremely hard to get, even if you are in contact with someone elses blood. Plus it is usually a genetic disease anyhow. don't get me wrong don't shrug it off, go to the Doctor and get immune boosting medications. the chances of getting it are about 1 and 100. I am a medical student, 2nd year, and i just finished taking a test about HIV/AIDS. HIV does not survive for long outside of the body, and in order to get it you need to have had body fluid contact with the other person. This doesn't include saliva, what i mean is contact with their blood and semen/vaginal fluid. There's a very small chance you can get HIV this way and you yourself say that there wasn't any blood. erm...naah....as far as i know..HIV can only be infected by other people when you have sexual intercourse....even if you drink on the same glass with HIV people....you wont get infected... |
