Should the Government be responsible for funding programs for the treatment of HIV?

What responsibility do you think the federal government has for funding programs for the prevention and treatment of HIV infection?

None at all.

They should fund it, they started it.

If the governments is going to take such a huge percentage of income from so many people, it should do something to benefit the people.

Personally, I think the govt should stop taking taxes, and stop funding research, and let people contribute to whatever research they want to see funded.

Hello, there is already funding in place.

The government all ready does quite a bit in regards to funding for such things as HIV in regards to social security and disability.
As it is very expensive to treat and US pharmaceutical companies have made sure of this I think that they should fund themselves and cut back on luxuries.

yes, this is an appropriate use of government

The government has a responsibility to protect the public health. Also, things learned about HIV/AIDS have shown to be beneficial in other areas. Did you know that genetically modified HIV has been used in gene therapy that kills skin cancer? I'm betting that you didn't. Treating AIDS is expensive, so it is in the government's best interest to educate the public on treatment and prevention. Sick people are rarely productive, so its really in everybody's interest.

Wouldn't that be against the repuglican creed, they got that disease from doing something bad so let them die. Actually the whole medical care industry is in crisis with many people unable to access it and should be overhauled to include socialized medicine. Leave the insurance company's out of it as they are the source of of the problem.

If treatment can be linked to the research aspect, then yes. = Not to mention, the government gives ocassional "tax break checks" that are like throwing money away ... that money could go toword a dying human being's comfort.

Yes. It could have been addressed during the Reagan years, but it was not a "priority" issue. The United States Federal Government had (and still does) the recources to halt the spread of HIV. Education alone does not work! ie. "Say No to Drugs".

The health and safety of a nations citizens requires governments efforts to control all disease. No more so than any other disease.

yes, every state has to address the common concern of the people. the progress of the country depends on the relationship of the people and the government. i think the responsibility is to give the people their best interest and not the self-interest of the leaders.

A lot. It is a problem of the country, so it should be up to the country to solve it.

EVERYONE gets HIV/AIDS - it knows no bounds. So everyone is a part of the solution, and that will come around with education, research, prevention and treatment.
