Characteristics of hiv spots?

I am concerned about HIV and have a purple flat spot on the tendon between my thumb and index finger. It is about an inch long and painless and flat. Is this typical of early hiv infection. It has been two weeks since the encoutner.

Hello,

It depends what you mean by spot, Lesion are a sign, but it takes more time for lesions to show up.

Here's some great HIV web sites for you to read, but I don't think 2 weeks is nearly long enough for you to have symptoms. Read these sites and then probably you should think about going to a doc but I don't know if 2 weeks is long enough for it to show in a test. Maybe the answer will be in these sites:

http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/Cance...

http://www.hivaidssearch.com/facts/hiv_a...

And remember always rely on a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

This is not an HIV spot. The lesions you are referring to would be "Kaposi's Sarcoma". This is a form of cancer that can arise in the very LATE stages of AIDS disease. Do not try to diagnose yourself over the interent. There are millions of things that cause millions of ailments, you are probably not infected, but get tested anyway to be sure. The second part of your questions, "is it early HIV infection", also is no. ARS, acute retroviral syndrome, occurs in appx. 50-90 percent of people infected. This usually occurs 2-3 weeks from being infected, it's your body's initial response to try and fight the virus (which it always loses). The virus then lays dormant for up to 10 yrs, sometimes with NO symptoms.....but it's always replicating. This ARS is a "mono-like" sickness and can last up to 2 weeks. fever, chills, diarheaa, rash, and swollen lymph nodes accompany it.
