Do all cases of HIV infection lead to AIDS? |
I always forget that the two are not the same, so I wonder how fully they are connected. most cases i not sure all cases No, they do not. If one takes care of themselves and gets medical care, you can avoid it leading to full blown AIDS. AIDS is actually a group of illnesses that one gets from the depression of your immune system. Staying healthy is the best defense. There are some people who have been infected with HIV for many years without developing AIDS. The average amount of time between HIV infection and developing AIDS is about 10 years in someone who is not treated. We don't know why some people go longer than 10 years without developing AIDS, but the fact that this happens is a hopeful sign. If we can better understand why some people don't become ill from HIV, perhaps we can use this knowledge to benefit others Most likely HIV will lead to AIDS, but some people can get away from getting AIDS. The reason why HIV leads to AIDS is b/c the HIV viruses destroy the cells that help fight the infections in your body. A weak immune system leads to AIDS. I am reposting a portion of a previous response to a similar question. |
