About HIV infection? |
this is for my friend.he is in a big trouble.he sex with a lady.he used condums but unfortunatly the condum break.sudenly he stop sex with her.this was his first experience.he dont kow that the lady have any disease.he worried about this There's a less than 2% chance of getting HIV by having unprotected sex with an INFECTED female partner. Since the STD status of this lady is unknown, your friend should get tested about a month after this sexual contact [modern tests for HIV-1/HIV-2 can detect antibodies to the virus just 21 days after suspected exposure]. He should be re-tested every 3 months for a year, just in case that his antibody response is slow. In my personal opinion, and according to my clinical experience, there's very little chance that your friend contracted HIV. He should also be screened for other STDs like gonorrhea, syphillis, herpes, chlamydia, Hepatitis B, and HPV. Hope this advice has been of some help and comfort. For more information on STDs, its symptoms and testing/treatment, go to the following link: He should go get tested. the best thing is to have himself checked. In the mean time, tell him not to worry because what done is done, worries can't help. He might get a negative result, we never know. Tell him to contact his doctor (or hospital) immediately. There are anti retroviral protocols that could protect him from HIV or Hep C if started right away, and he may need antibiotics as well (your doctor would be able to determine this). DO NOT let him make an appointment for "later"--have him tell the doctor "I may have been exposed to an STD" and get into the office (or hospital) NOW. Does he have health insurance? If not, go to the local clinic and find out how he can be tested for STDs. It's important to get done especially for peace of mind. You should test regularly anyway, condom breaking or not. Tell him to go get the test we all dread.Good luck |
