HIV infection: Can blood transfusions strengthen the immune system against HIV infection?

Can a transfusion supply fresh white blood cells to temporarily boost the immune system? Sure. Though probably the patient would just receive a more concentrated dose of the isolated white blood cells rather than a whole pint of blood, which could be needed by someone else.

Can a transfusion provide any sort of long term boost to the immune system or even resistance to HIV? Not so much.

No. If your count is off and you get a transfusion it will make you feel better. But if you do not have HIV a blood transfusion will not help you. It has a small chance of carrying HIV in it. They do test the blood for hepatitis and for HIV and syphilis and a few other things.
