HIV infection has mostly occurred in heterosexual young adults. ? True or false?

This is a true statement. Why is it that kids today just don't even think they can get AIDS. Is it lack of education or just a case of young people today being dumber that they use to be?

It is an unfortunate myth in the US only...too many kids think that HIV is a "gay disease." This is a huge problem in teens today in the US... You can blame homophobes AND Fundamentalist Churches who continue to spread this bull crap to fit their anti Gay agenda...sad, for they are responsible for most of the infections in the US now. They have lead their congregations to believe that only Gays get the disease. Very sad.

of course it's true.

AIDS has killed FAR more heterosexuals in this world than homoseuxals.

It's laughable when you hear some moron talk like AIDS is a gay disease. I can only assume they are still listening to Phil Collins and Madonna and like Big Hair bands and spandex ;)

I don't think young people are dumber than they used to be, though there are a few I absolutely have to wonder about. The problem is that kids are being taught by their parents, and pastors and conservative talking heads that HIV is a gay disease, and if you're not gay, you won't get it.

Kids believe what they're told, they have no reason not to, it's a tragedy they get fed misinformation and wind up getting hurt.

I do believe that it is a lack of education, school systems are just teaching abstinence and i don't think that is the way to do it. I believe that they should go in to the details of what sex education is. What can happen consequences and everything. Parents are also to blame here as well because they are afraid to talk to their children, they say they will learn it in school.
I know that kids will be kids and try anything and say it wont happen to me. They need a reality check. Sad to say its every ones fault. I know that i will do everything in my power to teach my son what sex is and the consequences that will follow if he chooses to have sex with or with out protection. I will also let him know what is out there.

They don't want to face the truth. It's really sad...because young people have all the warnings now...When it first hit the gay community in the 1980's nobody knew anything about AIDS...it didn't even really have a name. Some of us just lucked out and dodged a speeding bullet..other friends were not so lucky. Now they have the knowledge of how to prevent it and they don't/won't use it. It's a terrible waste to lose your life or health when you know how to prevent it.

In my 10th grade health class this year they stressed abstinence as well. I think if they did that, but -also- stressed condoms and protection I think in the end it would be more effective. You can only tell teens not to have sex so much before we're gonna tune you out and then go have sex behind your back. Protection, though, it well help in atleast 90% of the situations.

They gave alot of info on AIDs though, and even in the HIV video they showed, it had a straight couple and it ended up being linked back through atleast 4 other heterosexual "encounters". I can't imagine anyone in my class, assuming they paid attention, to think it's only a gay disease. It's a gifted intelligence class, but still, common sense would dictate.

But I guess common sense would make alot of things different then they really are now...
