Epidemiology of HIV-AIDS infection in Africa?

need detailed overview of HIV-AIDS infection in sub-saharan Africa.figures;infected,mortality,projec... for coming year.Risk groups, available treatment, theories of how the disease got there etc

They think monkeys were infected first and then people could have been bitten by monkeys or ate monkeys and then the virus mutated into a human virus. Another theory is a vaccine in Ghana for another disease made from infected monkeys and given to people. People over there are in poverty. The men travel long distances to work and are away from their wives for long periods of time. They seek out sex workers and take infections home to their wives. Women and children are sometimes forced by poverty to become sex workers to obtain money for food and shelter. Some HIV infected men over there believe that if they have sex with or rape a virgin, that that will cure them of HIV.Here is an HIV/AIDS link list to information...see esp.ccsid link for Africa..

1. Abbott Virology Patient Assistance Program:
Due to the life-threatening nature of HIV infection, the complexity of overall care, and the critical need for continuity of antiretroviral therapy, the Abbott Virology PAP was designed with several unique attributes. These provisions ensure that patients impacted by HIV have access to Abbott鈥檚 two protease inhibitors. Eligibility criteria vary by medication.

AIDS is a disease that can't yet be cured. it is caused by a virus called HIV.
people with the virus are HIV positive. but it may be many years before it develop into AIDS.
HIV attacks white blood cells , so the body can't defend itself against disease.
HIV can only be passed to others in three ways:
1. when two people are having sex.
2.by blood to blood contact.
3.from an infected mother to her unborn child.
if a man wears condom while having sex there is a less chance of HIV being passed.
