Why are some STDs risk factors for HIV infection? |
Is it because of immunosuppresion? Do some STDs facilitate a better environment for HIV infection? Both? Is an infection of some other STD a suggestion that the person' lifestyle makes him/her succeptible to HIV infection? Other reasons? If you have an STD and are exposed to HIV you have a much greater chance of being infected. The receptor cells for HIV are found in white blood cells and if there is a STD there are a LOT MORE white blood cells, therefore increasing the risk of becoming infected with HIV. If you don't have a STD it is much more difficult for the HIV to find a recptor cell to attach to. In my opinion, I think it's the lifestyle. I think maybe ig you have herpes or something like open sores down below it makes it really easy for the virus to pass through the skin membrane! |
