Can anyone please help me find some information?

I am doing an informative speech on HIV. I found out that since 1981 there have been about 1.7 million people affected with HIV. However, I also found some other information that says in 2006 there were over 1 million people affected with HIV, and that is not including the people who dont know they have HIV. Put together these statements do not make sense. I doubt that in 26 years there were over 700,000 cases of HIV. Can anyone please help me find some information on the number of people who were infected with HIV since 1981?

Oh i forgot to say that I am only doing my report on the U.S.

I don't know where you got your statistics, but I think you're missing something. Those may be from the U.S. only, or something like that, but I assure you that there are FAR more than 2 million people with HIV. If you follow the link below, you'll see that as of 2005, at least 24.5 milllion people had HIV in the Sub-Saharan African region alone. There is a really good online video series on HIV put out by PBS that I'm sure you can find with a little googling. Good luck.

I'll think the present figure for HIV cases should be about 2 over millions infected as I'll read it in our paper few month ago. Nothing surprised that why the whole world countries are educating their people to avoid this HIV infection as it can be prevented.
