False Information on black people?

well i looked at a documentary in my class the other day and it said
black people are more likely (then all the other races) to get HIV/AIDS or STDs....
well i go to a inner city school where is lots of black and hispanic students and my teacher (who is not black, and mixed with 4 or 5 different race) said outta 10 students 3 of us will get hiv or drop out of high school. can some one give me some real infomation on these kind of things?

its probably true all them ppl dont use protection and they do things with out thinking and the teen age female are fast and they dont care wtf they do so yea
and your teacher is a retard!

It was probably stating that there are higher numbers of HIV and AIDs in blacks -- not that they are more likely, but that there are higher rates. If you go to contries that are primarily black, sometimes there are areas with very poor medical care available, and the illness is easily spread there.

And for an inner city school, 3 out of 10 isn't too unlikely

a good percentage of research, especially in the "documentary" area are bias information. It is always geared at downing one group and making it as though that one group is prone to always being affected negatively. I honestly think there is no right or wrong answer. There is no one answer that shows one group is more prone to this than another. We all have different lifestyles, different environments, no way should a documentary research 20 people and just classify all people of that particular race and say "All blacks ....."

well black people have different immune systems than white people. the reason they are "black" is because of the sun. over hundreds of years of fielding and laboring in the African sun you get a tan, your skin pigment darkens and you pass that onto your children. by their skin pigment changing (biologically) fast. their immune system isn't necessarily weaker than whites, but it IS different. that's why black people are more susceptible to HIV and others, while whites are more vulnerable to polio and scarlet fever and such. look at sickle cell, that is considered by most doctors a"black disease" because only about 10 confirmed cases we're whites while thousands of blacks have it. so those facts are true but what does it have to do with religion? and it doesn't mean if your black your getting AIDS. it means your immune system isn't gonna fight it as hard as a white guys would.

I believe the documentary was suggesting that Africa leads the world in new HIV cases than any other country. Since most of the inhabitants of Africa are black, then I wouldn't be too surprised that more black people are infected with that disease.

But I haven't watched, or even know what documentary you're talking about, so I cannot really give you an answer.

Cracking up at all of the inaccuracies and blind conclusions in these answers. How fun.

You can easily find information on the Internet regarding the danger to the black community and HIV/AIDS. It involves a number of things: less access to and lower quality healthcare; the unspoken around the stigman of HIV/AIDS; the number of married men who are living a secret gay lifestyle; education and the lack thereof ... among many things.

its true, people that are black originally came from africa, and thus did not live through the black plague (or bubonic plague as its techniqually called) people in europe and parts of asia that actually lived through this have some form of resistance against HIV/AIDS because of this, thats why HIV/AIDS is so rampant in africa (in addition to the wild constant unprotected sex)

According to the 2000 census, blacks make up approximately 13% of the US population. However, in 2005, blacks accounted for 18,121 (49%) of the estimated 37,331 new HIV/AIDS diagnoses in the United States in the 33 states with long-term, confidential name-based HIV reporting [2].*

Sorry, but it's true.

Those statistics are only in Africa and even then it is not in all of Africa. Now, why would a teacher tell their students this? I never heard of it. Aids doesn't discriminate against race.

Black people can glide from treetops, and are immune to lasers.

Maybe it means in Africa? I heard AIDS is VERY bad there. One thing which is interesting is people with darker skin are more likely to get skin problems from the sun.

Black people have contributed immensely to the world.

I'm tired of fighting... I'm tired of Fighting... Fighting for a lost cause.

Information that has to be turned in to the US Surgeon General's office.

It has nothing to do with race.

There are 3 levels of lies.

1. Lies
2. Damn Lies
3 Statistics

Inner city, lower class people are more likely to get HIV/AIDS or STDs

There is only one race, Human.

Why do you not ask your teacher for the source of Information?

WTF does this have to do with religion?

Nope. Me nor my family has AIDS

For one thing their is no census or grade on any of this. This is word of mouth. No one knows for sure. If you look in the medical books most minority have more disease processes than the majority. Yet black males are seemly going to marry white women and have Bi-racial children.

The majority have better health care and so technically their business is private medically.

The minority go to health departments and their business is made public. Black people can cover any race mixed with another. To
society if you have a drop of black in you you are black. If you are brown, you are black. If you are in the public eye you can be counted.

But if you are in the private sect you can only guess.

It might be somewhat true.

From first the website below:

HIV/AIDS Cases by Race/Ethnicity

CDC tracks HIV/AIDS information on six racial and ethnic groups: American Indian/Alaska Native; Asian; Black/African American; Hispanic/Latino; Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander; and White.

Estimated numbers of HIV/AIDS diagnosed in the 34 states with confidential name-based HIV infection reporting, by race or ethnicity:
Race or Ethnicity Estimated # of HIV/AIDS Cases in 2007

American Indian/Alaska Native 228
Asiana 455
Black/African American 21,549
Hispanic/Latinob 7,484
Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander 46
White 12,556

It seems, that African Americans do contract HIV/AIDS at a higher rate than all other ethnic groups, althoug Whites came in second on this list, not Hispanics.

And there is some research that suggests, that African American's are more likely to contract HIV/AIDS when exposed than other races(Second website below):

"A genetic mutation that originally protected Africans from a virulent form of malaria now renders them 40% more susceptible to HIV infections, offering a partial explanation for the disproportionate spread of the virus among Africans and African Americans, researchers reported today.

The mutation, however, has an unusual benefit. It also slows progression of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, giving patients an extra two years of life, said Dr. Sunil K. Ahuja of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, lead author of the paper in the journal Cell Host & Microbe.

The genetic variation is the first found to increase susceptibility to HIV and the first linked to people of African descent, said virologist Robin A. Weiss of University College London, a coauthor of the paper.

About 90% of Africans have the mutation, and it could account for as many as 11% of HIV infections on that continent, the researchers said. Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for about 75% of the world's 33 million people infected with HIV.

The mutation also affects about 60% of African Americans and could partially explain why HIV is more common among blacks than whites in the United States. Blacks make up 13% of the U.S. population but account for nearly half of all newly diagnosed infections.

The study appears to confirm the theory that the risk of contracting HIV is not solely connected to behavior, said Phill Wilson, chief executive of the Black AIDS Institute, an HIV/AIDS think tank in Los Angeles."

But everyone should be careful and do everything they can to protect themselves. Condoms are cheap and can help prevent so may things.

Edit:
But just to be fair, I went to the school that I learned after graduation, had the highest rate of teen pregnancy and HIV/AIDS in my area of the state. And it was predominately white.
