Why Are Black Men So Homophobic?

There is homophobia everywhere. But in black communities it particular bad. It hinders outreach programmes to curb the spread of HIV. Why? Because more black gay men tend to stay in the closet "downlow". They use women to "front being straight" putting us at risk. Because they won't come out, they feel threatened coming to gay health centres or support groups to get proper information on safer sex etc and get tested. They are too afraid to have long-term monogamous relationships because it will become OBVIOUS, so they have more one night stands, often unprotected, putting them more at risk AND the women they are "fronting with" more at risk. So even when HIV rates are declining among white gay men, it is rising among gay black men and straight black women.

It is a SERIOUS problem. Why is it so hard for black gay men to be open and why are black men in particular so ignorant, violent and intolerant? Do they realize it is actually causing more HARM than GOOD in our communities?

What this means is that black women are usually a bit more masculine or "butch". Such a black woman is not going to readily be accepting of a black man that acts more feminine than she does.

Before black men can start being more open about their homosexuality, black women have to be more accepting and frankly that's not likely since black women have lots of testosterone. This means that due to black women's higher sex drive from the high testosterone, they see black male homosexuality as another hurdle to them being sexually satisfied.

It is easy for a young black female to speak leniently about black homosexuality from a distance, yet when hormones start to boiling, black women sing a whole different tune. The African roots of black history go back to matriarchal societies in Africa, but in America, black women really ARE head of the household.

Caucasian women were always dominated by their males' patriarchal societies. Take the Romans for instance. Their men celebrated Saturnalia by getting drunk, having sex with each other and beating their wives. This just isn't the history Black Americans. With caucasian women having lower testosterone levels, they can take it or leave it when it comes to sex.

One of the major problems with black men is that when they have a voice or a forum upon which to speak, they choose to avoid the real issues and cover up with violent imagery or tales of street pharmacists. This leaves black men ALONE on the issue of homosexuality so they go on the DL, the Down Low.

This is not going to change until prominent people who have clout in the black neighborhoods that are gay, come out and explain their scenario as only some of these rappers can. A leak of info here and there isn't going to change anything either. Black male homosexuals are worse off than caucasian homosexuals because caucasians are still first-class citizens.

To be black, poor and homosexual is a formula for misery. Caucasian males can be homosexual, but they'll still be caucasian at the end of the day. Homosexual marriages are not legal in the U.S., but caucasian homosexuals are still comfortable cohabitating together.

Some caucasian males truly do not see anything wrong with homosexual relationships. They just don't. Black males on the other hand KNOW that homosexuality is wrong for them so they will continue to stay on the down low indefinitely. Black men aren't staying with the mother of their children so they aren't going to stay with another man either. Some black men are just out for a nut, and when the opportunity presents itself, they take it, either male or female.

Black women are going to suffer for this in the long run, but in a way they are partly to blame. A lot of Black women let Black men do anything to them sexually even when they KNOW there is no chance for marriage between them. This teaches black men that they don't have to commit to any one person, male or female to be satiated sexually.

Black women have also had a hand in "turning-out" black males by putting their fingers in the male's anus after he has fallen asleep. When some black men find out that some black women behave so immorally they choose to only use black women and women in general for their sexual needs.

Actually the homosexuality is what is causing more harm in the community. It's not homophobia, which translates as a fear. It's actually a righteous indignation. After all black men are traditionally seen as more masculine. Right or wrong that is the perception. To choose to be a homosexual is to go i the direct opposite direction of that perception. It is also to go against the normal function of a human being.

This is one of the worst genralizations I have read in a long time. The American society (majority) is homophobic. The majority shuns anything that is different or outside what is considered normal. WHat about the Moral Majority, what about the fact that gay partners can adopt children WITH aids, but not children without. What about flying while Muslim, what about driving while black. What about white men who engage in the same unsafe sexual activities. Fix your question and maybe someone will respond to an actual question! This is a horrible and under informed generalization that is offensive to anyone with half a brain!

Ok, here we go. First let me say by no means am i a gay "basher". Do what you want, you live yo life and imma live mine. With that said, do i agree with being gay, no, i don't. The real purpose of having sex is to reproduce and to show love when you're married, even though WE (including myself here) have sex out of lust or we wanna express ourselves intimately with our partner. Two men cannot reproduce by having sex...no way, no how. Once again, i'm not judging homosexuals, its your life. Second of all, if you believe in the Bible, and i'm not preaching (i'm not exactly a saint) it says that God made woman for man, not man for man...Adam and Eve, not Adam and StEve. No body is perfect, im not sayin' that. I know that some of the things i do are wrong, and if i asked you about it and you told me it was i wouldn't go off on you because i KNOW better, just like eveybody else. So far as them being afraid to come out of the closet...why would you be afraid if you THINK it is right. I'll say 7 times out of 10 people in general won't "come out of the closet" because they know what they're doin' is wrong. Why don't more people come out of the closet and say that they cheat on their husbands or wives, why would you hide that?...because you know it is wrong. Once again, i do not hate gay people, they are people.

If you mean to ask why SOME black men are homophobic, I'd say for the same reasons that other people are homophobic. It has a lot to do with what they're taught growing up. American society as a whole is far more homophobic than most other western nations and black men hardly have a lock on homophobia. Driving home yesterday, I was channel surfing on the radio and came across some "Christian" talk show host comparing being gay to bestiality. He was white. Most of the people working to prevent gays from marrying are white.

Yes, there is a problem with intolerance in the black community and it does lead to lots of closeted men leading double lives, but I wonder how you can attribute that solely to black men. Do you not think that black women themselves play a big role in shaping some of those attitudes in their sons as they grow up?
