How Stupid Can You Be?!? |
I was reading a used book last night, one from the college bookstore, and I couldn't believe how stupid the person who took notes was. First, when the author made a snappy insult, they said "Thesis!" Later, the book said 'Honest men who are HIV positive can spread the disease to others', the person wrote "How?" Ex-ca-yuUSE ME?! Through a blood transfusion, unprotected sex, improperly used condoms, etc. Understand that this is a book by an openly gay black man trying to educate the world about the 'down low' (cheating, messing around with your own gender) not just being a black thing; at one point he claims (not at all unusual for authors of minority studies) that the black man had been demonized & sexualized by the white man (again, the person writes "Huh?"). The coup de grace was that every time the author 'questioned' something such as the number of black men infected with aids, they wrote "He's just asking questions, he has no evidence!" I don't mean a methodology (wrong-founded ideals) of stupid, I mean a lack of intellect... if you play D&D, low wisdom. I would just love to see what the third generation would right in this book =] Short answer: YES! People this stupid really do exist. From the sounds of it, you're reading On the Down Low by J. L. King. It also sounds like the person who owned the book before you did is more than a little naive and hasn't yet developed their ability to read critically while maintaining an open mind. Thanks for the Best Answer. It sounds like an interesting book. Report It Sounds more like "closed minded" than dumb ..well maybe it's the same to a certain extent. There will always be the odd few who fail to see any connection between the problems of the world and their own existence. Yes, obviously people that dumb really do exist. |
